This isn't true. There's no option to "x" out of the login screen. How do I access my company file without logging in to an intuit account?
Setting up an Intuit Account is one of our security measures, @tarkin79.
The prompt log-in using your Intuit Account ID happens when you open or create a new company file, add a user, sign in to My Company, or while accessing Intuit User Account Management. This login makes it easier to manage your connected Intuit services.
You can go through the process and once it has been successfully set up. I'll show you how:
1. From the Intuit account window prompt, select I’m an admin, and I’m the primary person who can: then select what you can do in the account and enter your email. Select I’m not an admin, I’ve just signed in with the admin's credentials.
2. Click Continue.
3. If you selected I’m an admin, and I’m the primary person you’ll be prompted to enter your Email or user ID, then enter your Password.
4. Select Create an account if you don't have an existing account.
5. Click I forgot my user ID or password if you have and want to recover your account.
6. Hit Sign In.

How about answering the base question we are all asking? We all understand that Intuit support cannot speak against corporate policy nor ever think outside the box. Not sure why I even bother trying. Hopefully blockchain projects will continue to grow and finally threaten the centralized "powers"; Intuit, Google, Facebook, Twitter, et al. Looking forward to the day.
PLEASE STOP IGNORING THE ISSUE AND COPY PASTING CRAP FROM YOUR "IF A CUSTOMER SAYS THIS COPY PASTE THIS" FILE.
NOONE WANTS INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO CREATE AN ACCOUNT WE WANT YOU TO REMOVE THE FEATURE, ITS POINTLESS AND ONLY USED FOR YOUR COMPANIES GAIN. THIS IS ABSOLUTE INSANITY.
I have clients who have a stand alone computer that is purposefully NOT connected to the internet so the 'trolls' cannot have any access to any data. They can connect, hardwired, for a time for updates of QB and other software, but intentionally keep the FINANCIAL computer offline. This is SO INTRUSIVE and violates trust at a whole new level. It makes the ability to keep up with multiple client logins so much more onerous. Make it optional! I also take my computer to our very remote cabin on occasion. How does one log in where there is no connectivity?
I know this may be tough and this is not the impression we want you and your client to have when opening a company file in QuickBooks Desktop, @squareroot.
Logging in to an Intuit account and verifying a user's identity can help each user to protect their data and account. Making sure that only the permitted user can access the file while securing financial accounting information.
About your question, you won't get a prompt to sign in to an Intuit account if you use QuickBooks in offline mode. I also appreciate you giving us feedback about this feature. You can submit your suggestions about adding an option for Intuit account login by going to the Help menu and then select Send Feedback Online in QuickBooks.
Also, when an Intuit login is prompted every time a company file is opened, the company identifier (RealmID) may haven't been saved in a company file. You or your client can avoid this when you save the RealmID in your company file, please see the instructions through this article: Stay signed in to QuickBooks Desktop. There are more solutions included in the resource.
In addition, I recommend viewing QuickBooks Desktop files access with One Intuit Account to find commonly asked questions about this feature with their respective answers.
If you have other concerns about the prompt and managing company files, kindly place a comment here. I'll answer them in time. Thanks for your patience and stay safe always.
Oh look everyone, another Intuit "parrot", repeating the instructions from their masters. Can any of you think outside the box and/or speak freely?
I may appreciate your 'attempt' at securing our data. I would bet that most of the professionals on this page already have established best practices to protect their client data. Creating a visible online presence with QB from a stand alone desktop product is just flat out intrusive. I do have clients that do not use or NEED any of the online apps you offer (email invoices/receipts/reports; DD PR, bank feeds (YUK!) Bill Pay) and have no need to be tied to you aside from the licenses/proof of purchase that they provide when they register the products. 'Logging in' with the Intuit Account for each client is just wrong. We appreciate the QB product but do not need you to micromanage the best practices we as professionals have already established and backup protection systems we have been using for years. Butt out.
Fairbanks, Which program have you gone with? I have been researching other options too. Would love some options not only for myself but all my clients. Thank you.
Only one I have found so far that is not browser based is Check Mark. I have requested a sample company and demo but have not actually used or tried it yet. Has anyone heard of it and/or used it. Thoughts?
I have used their payroll software for many years it is GREAT. Works wonderfully and not intrusive. So I am hopeful that the accounting software is just as good.
So, I have clients that are getting pissed off at our firm all because of this stupid login issue. They aren't tech savvy and they don't want another online account they have to remember passwords for. So of course we set up their QBD accounts and now they are getting hounded by this blasted log in screen to the point they can't print their payroll when they get on without me or another associate from our firm logging into their computer and hitting ALT F4 to bypass the dumb screen. There is NO "X". And for some crazy reason they can't hit ALT F4 on their computer because it is programmed to do something else for them.
WHAT NOW?
There needs to be a solution that isn't logging into another account.... they paid for "desktop" for a reason. And signing in with my intuit account as an accountant for 50 plus companies isn't the right answer....
This is not the kind of service we want you to experience, PPGAccountant.
In QuickBooks, we allow remembering passwords for another online account. However, if you don't wish to log in every time you sign in to a different account, you can create a login account for your client.
To successfully create a log-in account for a client we need to meet certain complexity requirements. The minimum requirements for complex passwords include:

I'll be around if you need help with anything else. Thanks and have a nice day ahead.
Quickbooks admins are completely clueless, dont even respond to this thread if you dont have a resolution. NOBODY WANTS THIS FEATURE. REMOVE IT!
Are you completely dense. Listen to what is being asked. COMPLETE REMOVAL OF THIS "FEATURE". NOBODY WANTS IT!!!!
I find it incredible that any company would ignore the pleas of their paying customers as Intuit is obviously doing. I have researched trying to disable this intrusive popup since it first appeared. The first 'workaround' I found is '[dis]allow any applications to access this company file' in Preferences=>Integrated Applications=>Company Preferences. The problem is, that I USE that feature to automate the importation of invoices from a SQL database to a multitude of QB files, so if I turn it off, my little homegrown app won't work (and the AP department will toss me off the roof). .
The workaround that I developed was to create a new user role. If you don't use QB for payroll and usually grant your employees full access, you can create a new role which includes everything except for payroll related tasks. I typically exclude Employee Center, Employees & Payroll, and Time Tracking. Obviously this won't work if you use QB payroll, but it has been an acceptable workaround for my users. And perhaps if you do use QB payroll, this login feature might be an advantage. But we are strictly QuickBooks desktop and having this login forced upon us is inexcusable.
Fortunately my enterprising users found the workaround to close out of the Intuit Account popup, which is now infecting my user accounts in addition to the admin account (and yes, I meant to use the word 'infect' because anything that slows down my users is toxic). For those of you who couldn't get this to work, this is how we do it - Right-click anywhere in the dark blue bar on the Intuit Account popup and chose Close from the dropdown. **NOTE** - you won't see the typical icons in the upper right corner on this popup - it's a solid dark blue bar all the way across the popup. After you select close, you'll get another popup - Are you sure you want to cancel signing in to your Intuit account? - Close this box by using the X in the upper right corner. This should clear the login popup and allow users to work.
If this is, indeed, Intuit's thinly veiled attempt to force everyone off QB desktop and onto QB Online, I'll be the first to find a new accounting system. If I wanted to use QB Online, then I would be using QB Online.
I received the message that I had to create an Intuit account a couple weeks ago when I tried to sign into my company account on my desktop computer and it denied my access to my own account, created with the software I purchased from Intuit, on my computer.
I do not use Intuit / Quickbooks in the clouds ever. My first concern was that in the event of a internet line failure, I would not be able to access the account on my own computer.
Guess What ! The next day, a storm hit the lines and the Spectrum internet cable was torn out. So I could not record payments or create invoices. This is absolutely ridiculous!
I am a one person business and my primary need for QuickBooks is to create invoices and track payments which is why I purchased the hard disc software so that I could avoid any on line /cloud
activity as I don't need it. Just got another warning that if I don't sign into a newly created Intuit account within 13 days, I won't be able to access my company file.
This is not the impression that we want you to experience with our program, Adjuster3.
I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team so we can investigate this issue further. Here's how:
Once everything's fine, you can check this guide about recording payments: Record an invoice payment.
Keep me posted about this matter. I want to ensure that you're being taken care of. Keep safe!
Tweet your complaint to @QBCares Apparently Intuit monitors that. We are more likely to see changes from public comments than complaints in a message board controlled by Intuit.
Adrian_A,
The statement below makes absolutely no sense to me:
I'd recommend reaching out to our Phone Support team so we can investigate this issue further.
Why do you need to further investigate a 'feature' that Intuit intentionally added to QuickBooks Enterprise. Your reply assumes the forced login is a bug, which months of research disavows.
So far I've seen two different reasons for this intrusive 'feature':
1. This update is devised to help ensure that the person accessing the company file is authorized.
2. The prompt log-in using your Intuit Account ID happens when you open or create a new company file, add a user, sign in to My Company, or while accessing Intuit User Account Management. This login makes it easier to manage your connected Intuit services.
#1 is incorrect because QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise has it's own user management feature which is local and new accounts are created that are assigned to a specific company file. If a user doesn't have a login, the user cannot get into the file and is thus an unauthorized user. Users are required to enter their username and password into QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise which then authorizes the user and opens the file. I've been managing QuickBooks for nearly 12 years and this functionality worked like a charm until QBE 2019 R12. If Intuit is trying to pass this off as dual authentication then I know a group of developers who need to return to school.
#2 assumes that ALL QB Desktop users also use Intuit Services (payroll, bill pay, TurboTax, etc). My company doesn't use ANYTHING from Intuit Services. We have proprietary software for bill pay that integrates with QBE. We use ADP payroll service that never mixes with QBE. Thus, Intuit is forcing me to l
login to an online account that my users and I have absolutely no use for.
Linking a hosted file that never touches the outside world to an account on the Internet does NOT add an extra layer of security and protection, it opens the file up to outside interference. My company has no interest in Intuit products such as Payroll, Payments, Time Tracking, etc. I just want the product we purchased - QuickBooks Enterprise DESKTOP.
Therefore I won't be calling the phone support team as suggested since I'm sure they've been told to keep it upbeat, talk up the 'new' login, and try to sell some of the aforementioned products. I will continue to use my workarounds and if Intuit interferes and blocks my ability to use these workarounds, I will begin looking for new accounting software.
To echo my compatriots on this board NOBODY WANTS THIS FUNCTIONALITY, PLEASE GET RID OF IT.
It's not just the forced login Intuit QuickBooks (QB) introduced, there are other unethical restrictions Intuit has imposed lately for the desktop users. For instance, to generate extra income, they want desktop users to subscribe to their online service by paying a ridiculously high subscription rate. To discourage desktop users, they have doubled the price of their desktop software. Costco and Sam's used to sell QB desktop software for under $200 and the price now is $399. Also, it is unethical (may be even illegal) to remove features from the fully paid desktop software every 3 years. QB also expects an internet connection for the files we import straight from our own computer. Why there is an internet connection required if we are not importing any file to QB from the internet? They are taking advantage of their monopoly, since QB is the most popular accounting software used by business owners.
Has there been any progress on providing a way to disable Intuit's requirement to login online in order to access my company file? We are a farm in a VERY rural area surrounded by mountains We must use satellite internet because there is no other option in our area. Because of the mountains our dish can barely get a satellite signal. When it rains, even a little, our internet goes out. Unfortunately the best time for me to work on the books is when it rains. Perhaps someday ATT will run a fiber to our area but currently they have no such plans.
I also share the concerns expressed by many others about the privacy of my data. I purposely bought a verson of Quickbooks that could work off line. But now it doesn't.
Maybe it is time for Intuit to rethink this policy.
Loyal Intuit customer since 1990- that’s 31 years. (Tom Proulx himself handed me my first copy of Quicken in 1989.) One more QuickBooks user soon to be an ex-customer. Sole proprietor, desktop version, data file backed up on site. No internet involved, nor needed.
Forcing me to log in to my own program with a password was annoying, but this is the final straw.
As of now, I am UNABLE TO OPEN MY OWN DATA FILE.
I’ll research accounting software this winter and make the switch.
If MarsStephanieL or Candice C or AlexV or SashaMC or Maybelle_S or Jovychris_A or AileneA or Adrian_A
Or any other Intuit employee want to reply to this, start by answering ONLY ONE question:
“How does this new requirement to log in to an Intuit account online keep MY data more secure than it is now, residing ONLY on a local computer and local backup?”
I no longer have the option to go close the popup without creating an Intuit file.
Intuit is holding my data ransom.
I do not use ANY Intuit online products, including payroll, and, after this, I never will.
This is not acceptable.
Thank you
@LakeCookSolutions wrote:Hello,
We've had a client reach out to us with this issue this morning, and I believe we have a temporary workaround. When prompted with the Intuit Account signin window you should be able to right-click the blue title bar of this window and select close. You will receive a warning about this, and then at that point you will click cancel to confirm. This should allow you to continue working with Quickbooks without setting up an account.
Hope that helps someone. If you find a faster/better way to close out of it, or prevent it altogether please do post your thoughts.
Thanks,
John @ LCS
