How do I restore my company file in Quickbooks Online?

I can help you manage and restore your company file in QuickBooks Online, george15.

When restoring company data to your online account, you can use your backup to choose a specific date and time to restore your file. Please note that while all entries can be restored, there are some exceptions:

  • Budgets - you need to export them as a CSV file.
  • Inventory - it doesn’t include the inventory history and inventory adjustments.
  • Tax rates using expense accounts - the Online Backup and Restore app restores them in your liability accounts.
  • Data backed up using the Local Backup feature - This data is saved in .cab format on your personal cloud account; Google Drive or Dropbox, for example. Restoring the data from a local backup is not supported at this time.

Once everything's ready, you may perform and restore your company file again. To do this:

  1. Navigate to Settings ⚙ and select Back up company.
  2. Find the company you want to restore a back of.
  3. In the Action ▼ dropdown menu, click Restore.
  4. Under the Date field, select the date you want to restore.
  5. Then, choose the time you want to restore from the Time ▼ dropdown menu.
  6. From the Ready to restore your backup? section, enter "AGREE". Then, select Next. If you see a list of recommended actions, follow them first. After you finish everything on the list, click Refresh to continue.
  7. Once done, confirm Start Restore.

How do I restore my company file in Quickbooks Online?

Hi - I am trying to load historical data from another source to my QB Online company via a thumb drive with .QBB file on it.  When I go to Settings in QB Online, I do not have a "Backup company" choice.  What am I missing?

I appreciate the significance of having this historical data for your business operations, and I'm here to help you through the process of loading the data into QuickBooks Online (QBO), @DeerPointHOA.

Importing historical data into your QuickBooks Online (QBO) via a thumb drive is as easy as can be. Ensure you'll have to open the exported file from your thumb drive in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) to ensure it's formatted accordingly.

The .qbb is a QB Desktop file format, that's why you can't open the file directly to QBO. If you don't have access to the QBDT program, you can download and utilize the trial version to complete the process. Afterward, proceed to migrate and import it into QBO.

When you're ready to move a file from QBDT (Pro or Premier) to QBO, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in as an admin to the company file you need to import.
  2. Go to the Company menu, then select Export Company File to QuickBooks Online.
  3. Click Start your export.
  4. Sign in as an admin to your QBO company.
  5. Select the Choose online company drop-down, and select the QBO company you want to replace your company file.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. Enter Agree in the text field, then select Replace.
  8. Select Yes, go ahead and replace the data, then click Replace.
