I am struggling with connect between Shopify Balance and Quickbook Online. how do you make both linked?

Hello, everyone.

To provide some context, the Shopify team made a modification that disrupted our authentication process. We’ve been working with Shopify and our teams to resolve the matter, and we now have a resolution in place.

You will be able to connect Shopify Balance to QuickBooks Online now.

I am struggling with connect between Shopify Balance and Quickbook Online. how do you make both linked?

Welcome to the Community, Megan. I'm here to provide details about your Shopify Balance connection with QuickBooks Online (QBO).

To better understand your issue, could you please provide additional details? Did you encounter any error messages? It would also be helpful if you could attach a screenshot so that we can visualize the problem.

To isolate the issue further, I recommend contacting the Shopify Balance support team to confirm if they allow connection with QBO.

Additionally, you can refer to this article for the third-party apps you can use within the program: QBO Marketplace.

Please let me know if you need further assistance with your QBO integrations. I'm always here to help. Have a great day!

@megan-ivyshaven-

You should have a 3rd party paid connector for a reliable solution.

We’re having the same issue. I’ve spoken to Shopify and they say it’s a Quickbooks issue while Quickbooks says it’s Shopify.

For us, the error shows after logging into Shopify Balance to connect in the intuit widget.

I am struggling with connect between Shopify Balance and Quickbook Online. how do you make both linked?

I'm having the same issue here. After going through the authentication process in the window that pops up, the page loads blank. Inspecting the page source, it is a QBO page that is failing, not a Shopify page. In your reply here, you mentioned contacting the Shopify Balance team to make sure they allow QBO connections. Why would it even show up in your list if it wasn't allowed?

Anyway, this needs to be escalated to your engineering team to figure out why the QBO OAuth process is failing after authenticating with Shopify. There are a lot of us who use the Shopify Balance account as our primary bank account as it is easy, integrated with our Shopify stores and doesn't require the ridiculous steps that classical business checking accounts still require in 2024.

I can see how hard you tried here. No worries, I'll make it up to you to ensure you never have to deal with this again, mikewiggins.

Have you encountered an error message when connecting your Shopify Balance to QuickBooks Online (QBO)? I've checked here on our end and there's no reported case where customers are unable to connect and integrate Shopify Balance to QBO. In this case, we'll need to properly integrate Shopify with the program. Here's how:

  1. Open your QBO account.
  2. In the left panel, click Find apps.
  3. Type "Shopify" and look for the specific app.
  4. Then, click Get app now.

If the same thing happens, we can log in to your account using an incognito browser. Private browser prevents saving cache and cookies that sometimes cause errors when running frequently visited websites. Here are the useful shortcut keys you can use to access one:

  • Ctrl+ Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari

If it works, return to your default browser and clear its cache. Every so often the cache becomes overwhelmed with older data which can potentially cause viewing and performance issues. Clearing it will refresh the system, and you'll be able to work with a clean slate. Switching to another compatible one to help rectify the issue.

If the same thing happens, please reach out to our Technical Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue. Here's how to reach them:

  1. Sign in to your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. Click Help (?).
  3. Select either tab to get started:
  • Assistant: Get quick, personalized answers. Select a suggested option, or type a question or topic you need help with. If you decide you need further help, you can still Talk to a human.
  • Search: Search the QuickBooks Online knowledge base directly, or select Contact Us and choose a way to connect with us:
    • Start a chat with a support expert.
    • Get a callback from the next available expert.

I am struggling with connect between Shopify Balance and Quickbook Online. how do you make both linked?

@RCV This isn't an App Integration issue. When we're talking about Shopify Balance, we're talking about a bank account that we're trying to add, not general Shopify store integration. You know how Quickbooks has "Quickbooks Checking Account?" Shopify has the exact same thing, except it is called "Shopify Balance. We have a routing number, an account number, and you can do ACH withdrawals and deposits using them. When I try to connect my Shopify Balance banking account so it appears along with my Wells Fargo Business Checking Account, it doesn't work. Not that it gives an error, it just fails immediately after trying to sign into my Shopify account in the window that pops up.

I am struggling with connect between Shopify Balance and Quickbook Online. how do you make both linked?

I am going to quote two previous posts below that have spoken into this thread but I don’t think are being address. I have already worked with Shopify support and they don’t understand the issue either. I have also worked with QB support and they sent me to Shopify. I believe it is related to the authorization process on QB side. Support on both QB and Shopify side keep referring to app integration but I don’t believe this is the problem at all. The method we use to integrate any other bank account or credit card account has nothing to do with apps. We follow a completely different process to connect a bank account. And that is the same process we have always followed to connect a Shopify Balance account. And in the past it always worked. It has only been in the last 5 months that it has stopped working. As mentioned below, my Shopify store integration is working fine. It is only the Shopify Balance bank account that is not connected. QB needs to look at this in the same way they would if customers were unable to connect their Wells Fargo bank account. I have tried the incognito solution and clearing cache. It doesn’t work. Here are the quotes I mentioned above.

I appreciate you joining the thread. I understand your frustration regarding this matter. I'll impart insight and guidelines to help connect your QuickBooks Online with your Shopify Balance account.

To link your Quickbooks account to your Shopify Balance account, log in to your Quickbooks Online account or use the Quickbooks app. Connecting your Shopify Balance Account to QuickBooks Online lets you securely sync all your transactions on Shopify Balance into QuickBooks Online. It will also allow you to use this information to work with your taxes and accounting tasks. Here's how:

  1. Login to your QuickBooks Online account.
  2. Go to Transactions > Bank transactions.
  3. Click Link account.

  4. Search for Shopify and click Continue.

  5. Enter your Shopify credentials and log in.
  6. After logging in, choose from a list of Shopify Balance accounts you own.
  7. You can also select the start date of the transactions on Shopify Balance to start your sync.
  8. Click Connect.

I'm adding these articles you can use in the future:

These steps let you connect your QuickBooks Online with your Shopify Balance account. If you have more questions about connecting your accounts in QuickBooks Online, post them here in the forum. I'll always be around to answer them. Stay safe!

@JamesAndrewM Check this out.

5. Enter your Shopify credentials and log in.

6. After logging in, choose from a list of Shopify Balance accounts you own.

7. You can also select the start date of the transactions on Shopify Balance to start your sync.

8. Click Connect.

See the item I have made bold, italicized, and underlined? The process you describe is exactly what we're trying to do. I can't speak for everyone, but the absolute first thing I did was follow the instructions on that KB article when I wasn't able to connect my Shopify Balance bank account to Quickbooks. It failed. It never gets to the "After Logging In" step because the window fails to properly load any data after entering our Shopify credentials and clicking the sign-in button. No list of Shopify Balance accounts is actually shown. It is a blank broken browser pop-up window. It doesn't matter what browser is used, as I have tried almost every one on the market at this point. Private Browsing / Incognito mode has no effect. Clearing Cookies and cache does nothing. This is something that needs to be addressed with your engineering team.

Also, I'm not going to "contact support" about it. The moderators can save that canned response for some other post. This needs to be hashed out here so ALL of us are able to see the results. Another user has already gone the "contact support" route and that has gone nowhere because of a fundamental misunderstanding about the issue at hand on the part of Quickbooks and Shopify support.

Here is a screenshot of the result of trying to authenticate my Shopify account to add my Shopify Balance Bank Account to Quickbooks Online.

the exact same blank dialog screen after logging back in to shopify from QBO is happening to me as well.   it has been this was for some time now.  I cannot sync shopify balance with quickbooks.   I see error 350 or error 571 when i had back to the bank transactions screen.

these are the two errors when trying to reconnect Shopify Balance to QBO.  I do have 2FA on my shopify account for obvious reasons.  credentials are entered correctly each attempt.  ALWAYS ends up with a blank dialog after entering my 2FA credential.

Bank transactions page

Your Shopify Balance account stopped syncing to QuickBooks
Update your account to start getting transactions again. (350)

I go through the reconnection auth process. After I exit the blank screen I sometimes see this at that Update your connection page:   Try again or go back to select a different account provider. (571)

Just in case it was a shopify account issue, I went ahead and changed my shopify balance password and tried again in QBO to reconnect.  Same result as before -  blank dialog after entering credentials including 2FA when reconnecting.  the dialog points to the same URL shown on other posts, static-fdpwidgets.intuitcdn.net

This is not the kind of experience we want you to have, bradnic.

I acknowledge the need to connect between Shopify Balance and QuickBooks Online successfully. I can see how much you want this issue to get fixed since it's already interrupting your business workflow. Let me share some details on how we can fix this.

Firstly, error 350 happens when your connections to your bank and credit card account expire or it gets updated by your bank. Since you've mentioned that you already reconnected your Shopify to QBO, we can do this process again using incognito or private mode.

You can use these keyboard shortcuts to access these modes.

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Shift + N

On top of that, I recommend using an updated browser so you can experience the full advantage of the program.

In addition, you can follow these steps on how to resolve error 350.

  1. Go to Transactions, then select Bank transactions.
  2. Choose the bank or credit card account you want to connect again.
  3. Click Edit, and select Edit sign-in info.
  4. Make sure of the user ID and password you use to sign in to your bank's website. Re-enter your bank info if needed.
  5. Hit Save and connect. Also,  Connection Completed, and transactions updated! prompt will show if you've successfully reconnected.
  6. Click Close X.

For reference and details, you can check this article: Fix Error 350 in QuickBooks Online.

Furthermore, the error 571 is caused when you close the authorization page prematurely when you're connecting your bank to QBO. Also, it happens when pop-up blockers are enabled on your web browser since it will prevent you from completing the setup and proceeding to the transaction page. To fix this, you'll need to turn off the pop-up blockers on your web browser and try to reconnect. On the other hand, refresh the page to confirm that the permission page is loaded completely.

For future reference, you can visit this article to review your downloaded bank and credit card transactions: Categorize online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Please don't hesitate to get back to us if you have further concerns regarding the error messages you've received. The Community space is always available at your services.

I appreciate the sentiment, and of course do not hold any ill will to the QBO support team.  That said, I haven't been able to get the shopify QBO connector has not worked for me for several months now.  I am online with the Quickbooks Commerce Dept support folks now. I have pointed them back to this community thread.  I am very grateful for those customers that have posted previously.

Leaving customers with no useful error message and a blank screen when trying to connect to their banks is not confidence inspiring.

thanks for the additional information.  I have used multiple browsers on Mac, basically Chrome and Safari.  I have tried private / incognito mode on both, mobile and desktop.   I do not have popups blocked.  I also tried different network connections and disabled iCloud private relay service as well.

NONE of the actions above changed the behavior of the connector.    This appears to be a cloud to cloud issue between QB and shopify, not a client side problem.

I am clearly not an exception here.  the thread certainly shows that

I guarantee that not one single person who is having this issue is closing the authorization window prematurely. I'd upload you a video of what is going on, but I can't attach a file bigger than 9mb, so the best I can do is another screenshot. I have all pop-up blockers, Content Blockers, and anything else that could possibly keep Quickbooks from establishing a connection to Shopify disabled, but as you can see in this screenshot, it is failing before the authentication even attempts to happen. Your API is broken. Finaloop connects to Shopify Balance just fine, but they authenticate with Plaid.

At some point, @bradnic had it connected. Then, something broke, and it stopped authenticating properly for them. Then, along come the rest of us who are trying to setup the connection to Shopify Balance accounts and it is still broken so we are unable to connect. Every other thing works. Finaloop connects to Shopify Balance, FreshBooks connects to Shopify Balance.

I would love to hear that the support staff on this thread have informed their supervisors of the unsolved issue and the supervisors have contacted the relevant software engineering supervisors and that we will be updated on this thread when the problem is understood and a timeline on when the issue will be resolved. That is my dream

@JSpiers667x is spot on.  Just got off a screen share session with the QBO Commerce team.  The rep has seen this thread and witnessed the blank dialog issue themselves.  Their team was online with two other customers with similar issues.  I was told they were requesting assist from the backend team, which is exactly what we need.

One other thing we tried was editing the account info of the Shopify Balance acct on the QBO Bank transactions page.  That successfully removed the connector and allowed us to set it up new.  Unfortunately the problem remained so removing the connector doesn't help - this is a backend issue between QBO and Shopify.

One more bit of info:  the 571 error pops up almost immediately, you just don't see it because of the blank dialog.  Just move the dialog before completing your auth process and you'll see it pop up.
