Your QBD Mac version is too old. I am not sure we are able converting it on the trial license of QBD Mac 2019-2021 directly to QB Online.

Consider purchasing a 3rd party conversion service.

Hi there, @andy-jt53-gmail-.

It would be my pleasure to provide detailed instructions on how to convert a QuickBooks Mac Desktop file to QuickBooks Online. First, you'll need to update your previous company data using a supported Desktop version before migrating.

You can try our trial version for the process. Be sure to install it on Mac OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) or higher. You may check out our system requirements.

After installing the trial version, you can now restore the file. Before doing that, I'd recommend creating a backup of your company file so you can restore it easily.

Here's how:

  1. From the QuickBooks menu, select Preferences.
  2. Choose Backup.
  3. Select Reveal Backup Folder and saved it.
  4. After that, open your QuickBooks for Mac.
  5. Click Browse, then select the file and hit Open.
  6. Tap Continue, then enter a company file name and press Continue.
  7. Hit OK.

For more details, check out this article: Restore your backup company file for QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.

After that, you now import export that data to QBO. Please follow the steps below.

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Choose the Export button, then select QuickBooks Online
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. After exporting, you'll receive an email.
  5. From the email, sign in to see your data.

For the detailed steps, visit this article: Convert a QuickBooks Mac Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

If you'd like to go through this over the phone, you can call our dedicated team who will be happy to assist you.

  1. Click the Help button, then choose QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Hit Contact Us
  3. Select a QuickBooks Product or type Contact Us in the description field.
  4. Tap Start a message

Please visit our support hours and types to ensure we address your concern on time.

Browse through these articles below. These links guide you on how to manage QBDT Mac latest version and to find out what data doesn't convert when you migrate from QBDT to QBO.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions. I'm more than willing to lend you a hand. Take care!

Hello and thank you for your post.  Today I logged into my new QB online ,from my 2010 Macbook with 10.9.5 OS  Maverick and there was only data and entries form 2008!  I am devistated and depressed to see  all my  data missing and out of date!   Now I feel like  a lost soul in a wilderness.   OMG I will now log in from my new 2020 MBP computer and try to follow your instructions,  but I fear the  2009 QB version will not even open on the new  MBP  and there will be the same data from 2008 in the online data.  totally disappointed and distressed over all this.
