There is no feature limitation using the Essentials trial version. With this, you can still create a journal entry in the program, @rodney4

We have improved the features in QuickBooks Online (QBO). The default user view is set to business view, and this is the reason you're unable to see the Journal entry option in the + New menu.

Let's change the user view from Business View to Accountant View so you can create a journal entry. I'll show you how.

  1. Go to the Settings (Gear) icon at the upper right.
  2. Under Your Company, choose Account and Settings.
  3. Go to Advanced from the left menu.
  4. Hit User View
  5. Select Accountant view from the drop-down.
  6. Select Save
  7. Click Done

The screenshot below shows you the last five steps.

After that, go back to the + New button and you'll be able to see Journal entry under Other. See the screenshot below for your visual reference. For detailed instructions, go through this article: Enter Journal Entries

Once done, you can run the Journal report from the Reports menu. This lets you view all your journal entries created within a specific period. For more details on how to customize and print the report, check out this article: Journal Entry Report

I'm just a comment away if you need further assistance. Have a great day, @rodney4

Thank you so much.  I had watched 3 separate YouTube videos about journal entries and not one person mentioned that you needed to be in Accountant mode.

Thanks so much for replying.  I think this was solved for me earlier.  Perhaps I didn't mark it as solved?

Thank you again for taking the time to reply.
