You have the option to use the QBDT trial version. I'd be delighted to guide you through moving your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop, @just wondering.

Before doing so, you'll want to make sure that you have installed the latest version of the Windows Operating system on your computer so you can successfully convert to QuickBooks Desktop. Check out this link to find out what your computer needs: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2021.

Once done, you can purchase and download the program by following these steps:

  1. Download and install QuickBooks Desktop on your computer. If you don't have a license to QuickBooks Desktop, you can download a trial to use for this process.
  2. Launch QuickBooks Desktop.
  3. Go to File and select Close Company.
  4. Leave QuickBooks Desktop open while you complete the rest of the steps.

Then, you can follow Steps 2 - 6 on this article for detailed guidance: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop. Also, you can use the following link to initiate the download in Internet Explorer to export data: Export data.

After you've exported your data, run a Balance Sheet and a Profit and Loss report to ensure that the numbers match. Make sure to set them on an Accrual basis and for All Dates in both programs.

Please know that some data won't convert, here's a list for your guidance: Limitations when you convert from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

Since you're going to using QuickBooks Desktop soon, I recommend visiting this article about QuickBooks Desktop user guides. You can also slide on over to our tutorials page to learn more about QBDT with videos and much more!

I deeply appreciate your info but it conflicts with what I was told from other QB techs on several long, very long, phone conversations.  I was told to use Chrome since Internet Explorer was no longer supported,. yet all the guides still tell you in print, to this day, to use Internet Explorer. However since I was verbally told to use chrome, I did and the results were devastating. Honestly I don't believe it was because of the browser I used, I truly believe that it is totally an internal problem in QBO moving to desk top. 90% of my data was so miserably misread.  Without going into many details I will give you example.  One of our bank accounts true and real balance is (approx.) $1300.00, and is to the penny on the online register and matches 100% with the bank. After the QBO was introduced to the QBDT the balance is $2.8 million, no joke. Thats only one account, not a single account is correct. I don't know what to do next. Can I delete the import and try again ?, can you migrate more then once?  Since we used QBDT pro 2017 and it contains data dating back to 2004 up to and including June of 2020, and it still is living on one of the computers, when I copy it and then paste it into 2021 Desktop, will it overwrite and correct, or will it compound the problem by adding duplicates. Also note, the Online QB has all the correct data, in the registers , vendor accounts, etc., it just didn't bring it to the desktop.

I’m here to make sure you’re able to transfer your data from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop successfully, @just wondering.

When converting your data, there are some steps and requirements you need to follow in order to move the entries properly. One of them is to utilize a supported web browser.

You can process migration once more, but you need to delete the incorrect company file first. Let me guide you with the steps:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Click Close Company.
  3. Select the Edit List button.

Once done, redo the process of conversion. You can use this reference to export and move your data to QBDT.

You can also use your old files, but you’ll want to utilize an importer tool to get the entire data transferred to your new Desktop account. However, you still need to delete the incorrect one before moving to avoid duplicates.

This user guide will help you get more familiar with QBDT. This reference contains supports sites to give you the answers you need about the program and improve your experience.
