Buy nowHello, @dherman.
Thanks for post your question here. I want to ensure you're able to view your register in QuickBooks Online.
One possible reason you're not able to access the View Register is you're not the Company Administrator. In this case, you'll need to contact the Master Admin so they can add you as a new user.
However, if you're already a user but still the View Register isn't showing, you'll need to perform the basic troubleshooting steps, which is to open the browser in incognito/private mode. This means it doesn't use the existing cache data file to load a webpage.
Here are the keyboard shortcuts to open a private browser:
Once you've completed the steps above and you're able to access the payment history, I suggest clearing your browser's cache to start fresh.
Let me know if the steps above do the trick. If you have other questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to comment below. I'm always here to help you out.
I'm having this same issue and none of these options solved the problem. I cannot "view register" for about 80% of my accounts. And adding items to the accounts does nothing, it's like they're stuck or something. What's the next suggestion?
Let me share some information about viewing the register in your account, jcrom.
In QuickBooks Online (QBO), we can view the register if the accounts have balances or QuickBooks Balances. For the income and expense accounts, we can only run a report since they don't have any balances.
If you're trying to view the register for the accounts with balances, let's try using other supported, up-to-date browsers. This helps us to roll out the possibility of a browser-related issue aside from clearing the cache (as provided by my colleague).
Then, try to view the account's register and add items to the accounts again.
If the same thing happens, I'd suggest contacting our Customer Support Team. They'll pull up your account in a secure environment and investigate what's causing this issue.
Here's how to reach them:

"If there is no option to View Register In my Chart of Accounts (the only option is Run Report) how do I view the register?"
View register is for the Balance Sheet accounts only like banks, assets, liabilities, and equities. You can manually be able to add transactions to the register if wanted.
For Income and Expense accounts that go to P&L, you will only see "Run report", and no View register.
Also, the View Register is for as of running balance whereas for the Income and Expense accounts reflects for the fiscal year only (although you can change the reporting period from the transaction report).
I hope this helps!
I am unable to view the register for Cost of Goods Sold, which is not of type Income or Expenses. It is its own type. I am on a supported browser, am the Admin user and can view other registers.
Welcome to the Community, Cheryl369. I'm happy to assist you with your concern.
Cost of Goods Sold is a type of account that appears on the Profit & Loss (P&L) statement. You can only view the "Run report" and there is no option to view a register for this account.
On the other hand, the View Register is specifically designed for Balance Sheet accounts, including banks, assets, liabilities, and equity, providing you with valuable insights into your financial position. You can manually add transactions to the register if desired.
Moreover, please check this if you want to know more about reports of Cost of Goods Sold.
