Intuit Account Friction NOT "improved user experience" - a user's perspective

You say:

Improved user experience and security protocols are being introduced for the QuickBooks® Desktop software user by requiring the Company owner to log in to an Intuit® account when opening the Company file. Having an Intuit account provides a secure, single source login for access to all of Intuit’s powerful offerings, including owned QuickBooks Desktop software and connected services.

https://quickbooks.intuit.com/blog/accountant-advice/intuit-account-why-now-for-quickbooks-desktop/

Here is my perspective:

I am trying to use QB Desktop as I need to get work done, I am not interested in learning about:

Intuit's powerful offerings

or connected services.

Just trying to get the job done.

Is this required login in an "improved user experience"?

Nope, not that because now I am logging in two times instead of one. And I need to remember at least two passwords, and if did everything right, two user names as well

What if I need to get work done, and don't have an internet connection?

Is that an improved user experience? Nope, that only results in no user experience.

Now, this scenario is difficult to imagine for your devs in Mountain View, but people do not have internet for a variety of reasons:

service provider got hacked

service provider outage

sitting in a coffee shop sipping a Super Venti Flat White and don't want to use the local wifi

and I feel stupid for even to have to write this..... there is not internet  tripple OMG

Not a real improved user experience and possibly a compromised security experience.

Like to hear from other users if I am off the mark, and also from Intuit if it is not a canned response.

Intuit Account Friction NOT "improved user experience" - a user's perspective

I appreciate the perspective and feedback you've shared with us, wvmaster. Allow me to provide some information regarding the new improved log-in with QuickBooks Desktop.

Logging in to your Intuit account and verifying your identity helps you protect your data. This is to improve security across our products, we're making the change to use One Intuit login when accessing QuickBooks.

This will give the primary contact greater control over user access and make it easier to have all your Intuit products seamlessly connected. Not to worry since we're not tracking everything you do in your QuickBooks Desktop.

The prompt to log in using your Intuit Account ID happens when you open or create a new company file, add a user, sign in to My Company, or while accessing Intuit User Account Management. This login makes it easier to manage your connected Intuit services.

  1. From the Intuit account window prompt, select I’m an admin, and I’m the primary person who can: then select what you can do in the account and enter your email. Select I’m not an admin, I’ve just signed in with the admin's credentials.
  2. Click Continue.
  3. If you selected I’m an admin, and I’m the primary person you’ll be prompted to enter your Email or user ID and your Password.
  4. Select Create an account if you don't have an existing account.
  5. Tap I forgot my user ID or password if you have and want to recover your account.
  6. Hit Sign In.

To keep your account organized, check out the following articles below. These will provide you more information on what other details you can find here regarding product-related concerns as well as tips in handling your Intuit Account:

You can always get back to me if you have any other concerns or have follow-up questions about your Intuit Account by adding another comment below. I want to make sure you're all set and got you covered. I'm here if you need further guidance. Have a great day! All the best.

I agree. This account requirement garbage just started for us and is absolutely ridiculous for a desktop based software.

Intuit Account Friction NOT "improved user experience" - a user's perspective

Just wanted to agree here. It's incredibly frustrating to have to log into Intuit every 2 weeks (I've been logging login prompts, so far 3/17, 4/4, 4/18, 5/2, 5/19).  I do not need online services, I do work for the DoD and the absolute last thing I want to do is have a cloud presence.  Intuit does not disclose the location of its cloud storage servers, and that's mandatory for me.  The fact that as a user I cannot turn these prompts off is maddening.  Even Microsoft allows me to purchase a standalone offline copy of Office where I don't have to continually login to live.com after initial registration.

I bought Quickbooks Desktop for a reason, and it was not to have to confirm that I own a legitimate copy of the software.  And I still haven't heard a single justification for how forcing me to periodically log in is increasing my security.  Last I checked, every online interaction I have is an opportunity to get hacked.

I understand that this process hasn't been easy for you, cdweldco.

We are requiring an Intuit account to access any of Intuit’s current and future products. This account ensures an extra layer of security and protection. Using the Inuit account, you'll be able to edit and modify your information through a single credential for every Intuit product you choose to use. It also gives access to added features and benefits for payroll, payments, time tracking, and more.

Please know that your ideas and suggestions will help us stay in tune with what customers need, wants, and expect. To help improve your experience, I'd encourage sending feedback to our Product Development Team. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help menu.
  2. Choose Send Feedback Online.
  3. Click the Product Suggestion from the drop-down menu.
  4. Follow the on-screen instructions in the QuickBooks Feedback window.
  5. Enter your comments and suggestions, then click Send Feedback

Lastly, here's an article that you can check to learn how to use the Customer Account Management Portal to manage your products, contacts, billing, and user ID access: Change or update your Intuit account with CAMPs.

Fill me in if you have any other concerns or further questions. I'll be around to help.

Intuit Account Friction NOT "improved user experience" - a user's perspective

Online user management is obviously a justification for Intuit to require an annual fee to use their desktop software after years of unsuccessfully trying to replace it with their QB Online product. Online user management is not only a hassle and potential logistical nightmare when users or email addresses change but, it's also introducing a potential security risk for customers who don't normally connect their accounting computer to the internet.
