Intuit Data Protect issue

I have been using Quickbooks for over 30 years, but I am getting frustrated with simple tasks that seem to go crazy.  The latest is with Data Protect.  First, if I don't backup within 2 days, it drops me from the system and I have to "log off" and re-enroll in the data protect process before it will back up my files.  The second is that sometimes, even though I back up the files, the program or routine doesn't recognize the fact that the files were backed up.  Case today:  I backed up this morning.  I decided to backup again at 5:30 p.m.  When I started the backup process, the data protect screen showed the last backup as yesterday.  It was the same in the history.  But I know I backed it up this morning.

What is going on?

Intuit Data Protect issue

Hi there, DennisT.

Welcome back to the QuickBooks Community. I appreciate you for sharing detailed information about what you've done to resolve the issue so you can get back on track. With this, I'll be providing troubleshooting steps to ensure you can back up your QuickBooks Desktop data file with Intuit Data Protect without any issues.

To start with, Intuit Data Protect needs access to your firewall. That said, I suggest checking your firewall to make sure important files are allowed and aren’t blocking Intuit Data Protect.

Here's how:

  1. Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type Firewall in the search field.
  2. Choose Allow an app through Windows Firewall. Then, Allow another app.
  3. Select Browse and go to Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Intuit\Data Protect.
  4. Click QBIDPservice.exe and Open.
  5. Select Network types and select the Private checkbox. Select Add.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the files IBUenghost.exe and IntuitDataProtect.exe. If you get a message saying the files already exist, you’re all set.

Once done, ensure that Intuit websites are trusted sites in Internet Explorer. You can open this article to see further details and how to perform the process: Can't back up with Intuit Data Protect?. This also provides an additional solution to completely fix the issue.

Lastly, you may refer to this article to view different details on how you can resolve general problems when your company file won't open: What to do if you can't open your company file in QuickBooks Desktop.

Keep me posted if you have any other questions or concerns about managing your data. I'll make sure to get back to you as soon as I can. Always take care!

Intuit Data Protect issue

THIS IS A PROBLEM.

I too am having issues.  It literally just stops working.

I have spent 2 1/2 hrs now online chatting with no resolve other than re-installing and repairing my program.  Can't do that every week.  The rep informed me that the Data Protect is "only to remind us to back-up" whether locally or online.  You can't even get to your online files to restore if the Data Protect stops working.  Where are my files?!  SO WHAT IS THE POINT?!

All of these fixes are offered but I can see from other conversations that the fixes are not fixes, just steps we followed to set-up in the first place.

FRUSTRATING

Intuit Data Protect issue

I have never seen a more clunky retail product as quickbooks enterprise.  Intuit must have a heck of a marketing team to sell this product to customers.  The entire world is 64 bit yet Quickbooks keeps selling the old 32 bit technology.  Looking for an alternative to Quickbooks that actually works.

Intuit Data Protect issue

I have been having the same issue for a few years. I have a backup scheduled each evening and I get an email telling me not to worry, I am protected. Then every 2 or 3 weeks Data Protect just stops working. No warning and no email. I checked today and was unable to access Data Protect. So I have to restart the server and when I do I get an email asking if I forgot to backup. I see the last backup was 5/26/22. It just goes away? Very frustrating.
