New Hire

My overview shows a new hire......Tami has been with me for over a year. How do I remove the "new hire" status for her?

Hello there, @robertgrace1. Let me help you fix your employee's status correctly.


First, let's make sure to add correct hired date of your employee's. Here's how:


  1. Within the Employees tab, find the employee name.
  2. In the Personal Info section, make sure to add correct hired date. If there's a need to correct, make sure update the information.
  3. Click Done.


Also, make sure to uncheck the the Have you filed a new-hire report with the state? checkbox. Here's how:


  1. Still, follow the first and second step above.
  2. Select the Edit ✎ icon next to Employment.
  3. The Have you filed a new-hire report with the state? checkbox should not be selected or marked.
  4. Select Done.


If everything is properly setup, we can open your company in a private window or incognito mode. You can use any of these keyboard shortcuts to access one: 


  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari


 If everything works fine, go back to the regular browser and clear its cache. Also, you can use another supported browser if you get the same result.

New Hire

  1. Please remove  the ability of a new hire doing self setup to be able to check the new hire report with the state.  If a new hire checks this box during setup then QB fails to report the new hire to the state.

The employer has no way knowing that the new hire has checked this box.  So this means the employer is unaware that QB has failed to file the new hire report reporting with the state.


Please fix this and add a confirmation report so that we can see when and if QB  has filed the new report with the state.
