New Project

I am setup as an account admin. In the past my company has not setup projects correctly. They have created an estimate and then use the estimate to invoice. We are now setup to use QB Time so I need to create Projects to track costs for project.  I tried to create a New Project but get the following error code when I try and save:  GraphQL error: User is not authorized to make this request.  Our account manager says I have the right permissions.  Any suggestions?

New Project

I know why you encounter the error message, @Jbhug. I'll explain them and provide troubleshooting steps, so you can create projects smoothly.

Certain roles in QuickBooks Online, like the Admin role, enable you to create projects and add related transactions. To ensure you still have admin rights, check the Manage Users page. This is especially important if you have recently coordinated with the primary admin about your role.

Here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as the current primary admin.
  2. Go to the Settings menu, then select Manage Users.
  3. Find the user you want to make the primary admin.
  4. In the Role column, make sure they are listed as Admin. If they’re not, select Edit to change their role to admin.
  5. Select the small arrow in the Action section. Then, select Make master admin.
  6. For security, we send a verification code to the phone number or email on file for your account. When you receive the verification code, enter it and select Continue.
  7. Select Make master admin again to confirm the change.

Once done, sign out of QuickBooks for the changes to take effect.

If you still encounter the same issue, try accessing your company account through a private window or incognito mode to prevent webpage problems, as private browsing doesn't save local files or cache.

You can use the following keyboard shortcuts based on your browser:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + N

If it works via incognito mode, clear the cache of the regular browser to start fresh and optimize your browsing performance. Alternatively, you can switch to other supported browsers.

You might want to generate project profitability reports to track your projects in a more in-depth manner. Here's a guide on how to do it: Use Project Profitability Reports in QuickBooks.
