We're on 18 and called it to update to 19. I got a whole lot of lawyer verbiage about v19 not going to be supported by the end of the year. Are they gearing to get to v20 or abandoning QB POS?
Hello there, Brivalen.
Let me make it up to you by ensuring you get the best help available, so this gets sorted out right away.
In situations like this, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Team to check your license information. The process requires us to open your account, which I’m unable to perform here in the Community since this is a public forum and for security reasons.
You can see this article for more details, and be sure to check their support hours to know when agents are available: Contact Payments or Point of Sale Support.
Additionally, feel free to check out these references for a list of features and policies in QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale: QuickBooks Desktop and Point-of-Sale support policies.
You're always welcome to get back to me if you have any other QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be around and ready to help you. Keep safe!
Not only does that not answer my question, it has nothing to do with my question.
Hello there, @Brivalen.
It is not the kind of impression I'd like you to have. Let me share information about the Point of Sale update.
As of now, there is no update about a new version. The latest release available is 19.0. You were advised to contact our Customer Care team because you received that news.
Let me know if you have additional questions about version Point of Sale 19.0. I'm always here to help. Have a great day.
As of today, Intuit will no longer sell or support point-of-sale.
If you have a license to the software and do not use Intuit’s payment system, you can continue using point-of-sale. It’s important that you have copies of the most recent release patch files in case you need to install on a new machine. Intuit will not provide them.
You also need a merchant service that works with the point of sale software. I found a company that does this. At least my clients have more time to decide where and when to migrate their point of sale.
Intuit is recommending Shopify, but we need time to do a full needs analysis to determine the best course of action.
Do you happen to have the article or announcement from intuit to show the discontinuation of the POS software. I have seen this a few places but never from intuit so management thinks its just hearsay at this point.
I've got some information you need about this query with Point of Sale, @jwshepherd.
Yes, you're correct. QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale discontinued its connected services and support on October 3, 2023. From there, the software will continue working in a limited capacity and no longer receive security updates.
Alternatively, you can contact our QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale if you still have clarifications about this update. They can further explain more about this, specifically how you can adjust for this discontinuation.
Also, I'll be adding this link for more information for your commonly asked questions: Discontinuation of QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale FAQs.
I'm more than willing to help if you have any other concerns about Point of Sale. I'll ensure your needs are taken care of. Take care always.
This is so disappointing since I just purchased v19 and purchased a pricy credit card reader. I was going to use Shopify but opted out since I've been using QBPOS for 20 years now. They should have should v19 for a discount and provided a cc'd terminal. Now I have to start all over again. Bad business, this is probably why you are discontinuing POS.
Quickbooks is going REAL hard on tricking small business owners into buying this product they are discontinuing in 7 months. WTF.
Wow. Twenty years. It is nice software and has served my clients well. Intuit does not hide the fact that their focus is on SAAS software now. It was just a matter of time. Desktop software is difficult to support. But I worry about my remote clients with lousy internet. They stay on desktop programs for a reason.
But before you despair, here is an article I wrote on how to extend the life of V19 until you are ready to migrate to Shopify.
You want you to get your money's worth out of your recently purchased V19. But more importantly, let other stores test the new migration procedures to Shopify first. Chances are, if you have a copy of the program and its patch files in case you need to re-install the software AND you use another merchant service that works within POS, you can continue well past Oct 2023 and take your time comparing software before making a final decision on Shopify or another program. Changing inventory programs is not to be taken lightly. Depending on CC volume, a new machine could be free or discounted.
My computer when down and I had to reinstall my previously purchased and registered Quickbooks POS 19.0. Upon reinstallation the software keeps asking to be registered which I unsuccessfully attempted to do yesterday with the aid an Intuit customer Service rep for about 2 1/2 hours yesterday. Upon the attempted online and phone registration the software would not accept an activation code from me or the customer service rep. I intend to continue using 19.0 while I am making a decision as to whether to move to shopify how do I make it stop asking for registration and threating to stop working.
Thanks for following this thread, @md gee. I'll share some information with you on how QuickBooks activation works.
You'll want to re-register discontinued products if they've been registered before on any computer and are being reinstalled. Thus, it keeps asking for registration after you reinstall your QuickBooks Desktop Point of Sale (POS) 19.0.
While working with Intuit representative, have you tried disabling your antivirus software temporarily? As it may be interfering with the registration process. Check out the outlined steps below:
Additionally, when you’re asked to verify your information, make sure you provide similar details you did during the purchase. It should entirely match to prevent issues and difficulties while registering.
Since the program won’t accept the activation code, please consider contacting our support team once more. Our representatives can find more solutions and help stop this threat.

Intuit's "End of Life" policy for QuickBooks Desktop POS v19 means no more support after a certain date. It seems they're pushing users towards Shopify so I doubt there will even be a v20.
Shopify lacks a-lot of features of QuickBooks like Layaway, Gift Cards (existing), etc....the good news is there are software solutions available that help extend the functionality and lifespan of your QuickBooks Desktop POS v19, safeguarding your investment in the Intuit licenses and avoiding retraining employees, migrating customer data and additional costs.
Hope I answered you Q.
They are definitely not making it easy.
I wanted to share a recent experience we had at Hub Tech Solutions that might resonate with some of you dealing with similar circumstances.
Like many retail businesses out there, Accent's Home and Gifts, one of our clients based in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, was relying on Quickbooks POS for their point-of-sale operations and WooCommerce for their website. But as we all know, Quickbooks POS has reached its end-of-life. That means no more updates, no more support, and ultimately a need for change. This left Accent's in a spot where upgrading simply wasn't on the cards. They needed a new solution, and that's where we stepped in.
After evaluating several options, we decided to migrate their operations to Shopify. This wasn't just about replacing the POS system, though. We had to ensure a smooth transition that wouldn't disrupt Accent's daily operations or compromise their customer data, or website functionality.
I won't lie - it was a significant endeavor.
If you're interested in the details of how we managed this, I've written a case study you can check out here: https://hubtechsolutions.com/powering-accents-home-and-gifts-transition-to-shopify/
Hopefully, this might provide some insights if you're facing a similar situation. And remember, we're all in this together, navigating these tech transitions one step at a time.
Best,

POS 19 is reaching end of service Oct 3, 2023. From my understanding per multiple phone calls on July 13, 2023, THIS MEANS AS OF OCT 3, 2023
1. There will be no online services available for POS. No more Payments services through POS Intuit Merchant Services, no security updates,
2. You CAN still sync POS with QBFinancial DESKTOP, although QBFinancial Desktop 21 reaches end of service May 2024. (No Payments account or online services or updates.)
3. You still CAN use POS to receive inventory, sync with QBF Desktop to make item receipts and bills if you have QBF Desktop.
4. You CANNOT sync POS with QBF ONLINE after Oct 3.
5. Your POS card reader will no longer be useable for anything.
Since Shopify is too much for us (services and cost,) we are going to test if we can make a sale in POS, charge the sale to the customer's account, sync with QBF Desktop, and take payment using a basic card reader in QBF--at least until May of 24... (We already have a merchant account through QBF Desktop, although that will end in May 24.) -Norma
Like most everyone we were blinsided by Inuits decession. We have partnered with another merchant provider and can:
> Take credit card payments integrated within POS
> Import Intuit Gift Card Open Balances to our Merchant Account
> Provide integrated store exhange
Michael Clay
Can you provide that merchant service?
