Hello Ashley
Thank you for your reply. I know how to run the sales tax Liability Report. We used to be able to run a "Sales T Revenue Summary" report but that is no longer one of the options. That report breaks down Non- Taxable sales and Labor. I was using the "Sales Tax Center" to get that information, But now with the new Sales Tax format I haven't been able to find a path to the "Sales Tax Center"
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks for touching base with us again, @DavidT56.
You can customize the Taxable Sales Summary Report to show non-taxable customers and products/services. Check it out:
That's it! For more information on making the most out of customized reports, I recommend checking out: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online

I am "attempting" to switch from Desktop to Online. I had sales tax codes set up for taxable, non-taxable, Governmental, Industrial and Out of State. In my state sales tax report I have to separate sales to each one of these. So the Sales Tax Revenue Summary in Desktop worked perfectly for this. The columns in this report were "Taxable Sales, "Governmental", "Industrial", Non-Taxable, Out of state and Total. How can I get this report in QBO?
Welcome to the Community, D-Rack. I'd be glad to share details and help with your question about tracking sales taxes.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) offers a feature that enables you to set up custom tax codes akin to what you have in the Desktop version.
These customized rates can be applied when creating sales transactions to ensure they appear as separate lines in your sales tax reports.
Let's walk through the steps to set this up:
After that, choose the codes you have generated in the Select tax rate section while creating sales transactions.
These tax codes will also have their separate lines when running sales tax liability report.
Here's an article that has more details about this option: Edit Sales Tax Rate In QuickBooks Online.
Here are some extra references that could be helpful once you transition to QBO and when collecting sales tax as well:

Thanks for the quick response. However when I attempt this it is not showing the "Select Tax Rate" box that you have highlighted in the middle screen shot above. The customer I tried to invoice was setup as an Industrial exempt tax code in QB Desktop and was setup as tax-exempt with Indust_Exempt in QBO. Why am I not seeing the Select Tax rate? Also, I saved the invoice and ran the report but it is not putting this into Industrial exempt.
I appreciate your prompt response, D-Rack. Let me provide additional input when tracking sales taxes in your online account.
Beforehand, may I know if you're currently using QuickBooks Online through a mobile app or in the web browser? You can also share detailed screenshots of your end, so I can have a clearer view of your screen. Any additional details are much appreciated.
You may want to open and access your QBO account in a supported web browser to ensure the Select Tax Rate box is visible. This way, you can seamlessly manage and run sales tax reports in your file.
However, if the issue persists even when accessing this task in a web browser, let's consider performing some troubleshooting steps to help rectify the possibility of a browser issue. Please refer to these keyboard shortcuts to open one:
In addition to that, you may try opening your account in a different browser. This could be an issue with the browser that you're using. Once it works from there, go back to your regular browser and clear its cache.
Furthermore, you may want to utilize this reference on how QuickBooks collects sales taxes for you: Learn how QuickBooks Online calculates sales tax.
I'll be available anytime in this thread if there's anything else you need further assistance with when managing sales taxes. Just let me know, and I'll make sure to get you covered. Keep safe and have a good one!
I tried all your suggestions above. Clearing cache, Chrome, Edge and all results are the same. I was using the QB App on my desktop PC (I'm not using QB on mobile devices). I have tried using just a browser. See the screen shot of the invoice. This customer is marked Non-taxable in their setup. (It would not allow me to post 2 images so I overlaid the customer settings on top of invoice in one screenshot.
Thanks for sharing the troubleshooting steps and adding a screenshot.
Let me join in this conversation and provide additional info about the Sales tax rate feature in QuickBooks.
Based on what you've shared, it seems that you're using the new invoice layout.
I want to inform you that the classic sales tax rate feature is unavailable in the new invoice experience. This functionality is only available in the old layout. This is why you're unable to see it in your invoice window.
For additional reference, please check this article: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
If you still see the option to get back to the old layout, I suggest switching back. This way, you can add a manual sales tax rate to your invoice.
Here are the steps to revert your invoice to the old layout:
See the screenshot below for your reference:
If the option to switch back is no longer available on your end, I recommend sending feedback to our developers. They can review your suggestions and most likely include them in future updates.
Moreover, you can customize your sales transactions in QBO. It will let you decide what info your customers see and only add the details that matter most to your business.

I contacted support and this person could not figure it out too. I went to do my first payroll today through QBO.
Everything was fine until I went to print the checks. I use (and always have) 3 check per page and if the employee wants a paystub I can email it to them or print separately. HOWEVER. QBO will not give me the option to use the same checks I've used for over 20 years. The developers of this version must have their heads in the sand. If it is done in Desktop it should be done in Online. This was a deal killer for me. I cancelled and going back to Desktop and will be searching for another Accounting software package to switch to when QB inflates my subscription charges to a point it isn't feasible to keep. My company is very small. I do maybe 10 invoices a month, very few checks and 2 employees and QB can't even get it right for this small of a company. God help the larger ones! Good bye QBO and probably Desktop ....soon! It's been a great 20+ years but you've lost sight of what your customers need!
