Hi @3CubicanDad,

I'm here to take care of your query about the Multi-Monitor feature in QuickBooks Desktop.

If you encounter windows or dialog boxes appearing on a different monitor, you simply move it to the screen where you want it to go. You can either maximize the window or adjust its length. Open this article to learn additional details of this feature: Use QuickBooks on multiple screens or in Multi-Monitor mode.

In case you encounter issues while enabling this mode, see this article: Multi Monitor Support: Unsupported Display Arrangement. It lists possible causes, as well as the steps you need to take to resolve it.

Feel free to drop a comment below if you have additional concerns. I'll be sure to get back to you.

The issue has nothing to do with Multi-Monitor Mode.  I have 4 monitors.  I like to open in use QBs on Monitor 2 in single monitor mode.  When using QB 2017, the Login Screen, and ALL the various dialog boxes appeared on Monitor 2.  After upgrading to 2020, many of the dialog boxes show up on Monitor 1, even though QBs is running on Monitor 2.  I move them, use them, and then the next time, they reappear on Monitor 1.  That is not the way QB 2017 behaved.

My issue is not related to Multi-Monitor Mode.  I use QBs in Single-Monitor mode but I have 4 monitors.  I like to use QBs on Monitor 3.  Using QBs 2017 I all my dialog boxes showed in the same monitor as QBs.  Ever since I upgraded to 2020, many of the dialog boxes appear on Monitor 1.  I move them to #3 but the next time, they reappear on #1.  This is new behavior.

Thank you for getting back to us here on the Community page, @3CubicanDad.

To isolate the problem, we have to ensure that the single view option is selected when using your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2020.

  1. Open your QBDT 2020, then go to the Edit menu.
  2. Select Preferences.
  3. Click on Desktop View at the left pane.
  4. Under My Preferences, tick the radio button beside One Window or Single View.
  5. Make the necessary settings you want, then tap OK.

Once completed, open QuickBooks and check the dialogue boxes. If you're getting the same problem, I encourage working with an IT Professional to review the display settings of your Windows.

If there's anything else you need help with, let me know by adding a comment. I'm always here to help. Have a good day!

Changing the settings to a Single Window View didn't make a difference.

When I launch QBs the Update Service opens on Monitor 1
Then the Desktop Login dialog box opens on Monitor 1

The rest of the program does open in Monitor 3
Today the Password Expired box also opened on Monitor 1
The Working screen after changing the PW and the OK button showed up on Monitor 1
Messenger notifications show up on Monitor 1

In each case, I move the dialog box over to Monitor 3 before acknowledging it

While changing the PW for my 2nd company file, I was, however, able to change the PW and received the OK, on Monitor 3.

Overall though I don't see any change.  Before blaming my PC, is anyone else able to replicate my issue or confirm other behavior?

I have a similar problem when the dialog box open off any of my monitors.  I can't move forward with QB because i can't respond to the dialog box.  It is not on any of my 3 monitors.  Often times dialog boxes open part on and part off my furthest to the left monitor.  I can drag that back to a monitor, but some dialog boxes just open off the monitors all together.  Please let me know if Tech Support was able to help you.  Thanks,

Hi JimBasile!

Thanks for joining this thread. Let me assist you with this dialog box.

We can fix this dialog box issue by switching to One window or Single View instead of multiple ones. Follow these steps:

  1. Go to the Edit menu and select Preferences.
  2. Click on Desktop View at the left pane.
  3. Under My Preferences, select the radio button beside One Window or Single View.
  4. Tap OK.

If the same thing happens, I suggest you reach out to our Support Team so they can investigate it. Here's how:

  1. Go to Help, then select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. Select Contact Us.
  3. Enter "Dialog box", select Let's talk and then choose a way to connect.

Here are some of the articles you can check on how to fix display issues:

You can always get back to me if you have other concerns. Good day!

If this is still a problem for anyone, I just figured mine out. The dialog boxes are going to open on your "Main Display" monitor. So you either have to change which monitor is your main display or use your main display monitor to work in QB's.
