Can Customer Type report be customized to show summary and not detail? I would like a report that shows sales by type and customer name but not all the invoice line items

Allow me to help share some information about running reports in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

If you're referring on grouping the report by Customer Type, this can only be shown on the detail report. If you wish to run the report, you may need to run the Sales by Customer Type Detail report and collapse the invoice line.

1. Click Reports at the left-pane.
2. Look for Sales by Customer Type Detail Report.
3. In the report's page, collapse the invoice line by clicking the drop-down arrow beside the customer type.

This is not really meeting the need we have.  We'd like a Sales by Customer Type Summary report: something that would show the types with the customers listed included in that type, but not all the transaction details.  I've tried various ways of customizing, but it doesn't seem possible.  Thanks for your help.

To clarify, you want a summary of the total sales for each transaction type under the customer's name without the individual transactions showing up? It sounds like a great report and I can see how adding it in QuickBooks would help you, and others, get a good look at how business is going.

Rest assured, I'm going to submit a feature request from my side, which is sent to the Product Development Team. They're constantly looking for great ideas from users, like yourself, when deciding how to enhance QuickBooks Online.

Hello.  I would also like the report Don is requesting...A report by customer type that would show customer name and their sales for a given period.  Grouped by customer type.  We used this report in QB Enterprise and are missing greatly since our conversion.  The current report is not helpful.  Just lines and lines of product names with no way to associate to a customer.  Thank you.  S

Let's go over the sales reports in QuickBooks Online to get the information you need. You can customize either the Sales by Customer Type Detail or Sales by Customer Detail report grouped by customer type. Let me show you how.

1. Select Reports on the left pane. 
2. In the Find report by name field, search Sales by Customer Type Detail or Sales by Customer Detail. 
3. Click the small Gear icon and select Show More.
4. Mark the Customer box. 
5. Click Run report.
6. Under Rows/columns, click the Group by drop-down and select Customer Type. 
7. Select Run report. 
8. Click the right arrow beside the customer type to collapse the details and not show the different invoices/lines.

After that, you can memorize the report with its current customization settings to easily access it.

Hello, this might not be the best place to communicate this and get results but I also wanted to say that our firm would greatly appreciate the addition of a Summary version of a sales report by client type as Don mentioned. It would add a ton of value to QBO if the QBO Dev team could mirror all of the reports available in the destop versions and put them into QBO.

I'll surely take note of your request. I can send feedback about this to our developers so they can create a summary of this report.

Also, you'll want to export the Sales by Customer Type Detail report into an Excel file. From there, we can remove other details to get the data you need the most. Simply click on the Export button once you have it open. Then, select the Export to Excel.

So much time has passed and this report is still not available.  While we could export everything to Excel and manipulate the data, that is challenging when you want all of 2019 by customer type by month for example. This would be extremely useful.  Why is it not available?

How about accounts receivable reports by customer type... does that option exist or just the sales?

Currently, we only have the Sales by Customer Type Detail report. We can customize this to only display the invoices. Here's how:

1. Click Reports on the left menu and search Sales by Customer Type Detail.
2. Click the Customize button and go to the Filter section.
3. Select Invoice in the Transaction Type field.
4. Click Run report.

Other than that, we can send it as a feedback to our Product Development Team. They'll review and put it into consideration for product updates. You can also visit the QuickBooks Blog and the Product Updates website for the latest news.

I would like the same feature.  I see this was from 2019 and it's 2021 now.  Is that feature available yet?

I can see how Sales by Customer Type would be helpful for both you and your business. As of now, we don’t have a specific time frame on when this specific feature will be available. 

For now, I’d appreciate it if you send your product suggestions straight to our Developers. They'll be able to review and put this to work immediately.

Here’s how to send a product request: 

1. Click the Gear icon.

2. Select Feedback.

3. Enter your suggestion.

4. Click Next.

5. Click Skip and send a message.

6. Select a Category.

7. Click Send a message.

In the meantime, you can follow the steps shared by JamesDuanT to pull up the Customer Type Detail report and customize it.
