At this time, adding IP Address restrictions in QuickBooks Online (QBO) is unavailable. As long as you've given a user access rights, they can view your company file outside the office.
You can take a look at this article to learn more about the different user types and level of access in QBO: User types in QuickBooks Online.
Additionally, I want you to get the most out of QuickBooks for your business. You can check some articles that are designed to help you get acclimated to the software. They can be accessed at the following link: QuickBooks Tutorials.

Is this feature on the radar?
Hello, Brad Martin.
Adding an IP address restriction would definitely enhance the security of your company data.
Our Developers might be developing this kind of feature for future updates. Keep an eye out for our newsletters in the future. You can also check out our QuickBooks Online blog for news and updates for the program. You can look for "What's new in QBO" articles in the blog page.
In addition to Mirriam's answer, you can also track your users' sign in and out times in the Audit Log report. This is relatively useful when you want to determine if a user has logged in outside your office hours. To access it:
This is what it looks like:

I'm open for any follow-up questions you might have for QuickBooks Online's features. I'll also listen to any other concerns you might have. Just leave a reply and I'll get back to you.
Consider switching to QB Desktop and deploy a private cloud. You may allow limited users to access data by internet connection.
No thanks. We just switched from QB Enterprise desktop because of the hassles to administer it.
Not a bad workaround in the meantime. Thank you
It's been awhile since it was mentioned in this post that the developers were considering adding IP based restrictions for accessing QBO online. I am very interested in this capability and also the ability to restrict user access by region. Any progress on this front?
Thanks,
Jamie
I came across this post from over four years ago. At that time the developers were considering adding in IP based access restrictions. Has there been any progress on that front? I am also interested in restricting access by region/geography. If the user is based in Canada, there is little need for users to be able to access the data from Russia or China in most cases.
Thanks,
PJK
We appreciate you taking the time to post your issue about restricting IP Addresses in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I'll help you figure out your concern.
Please know that QBO doesn't currently offer the capability to add IP address restrictions to limit user access to an account from a specific location such as an office because QuickBooks Online is designed to provide flexibility and accessibility to users, allowing them to manage their finances from anywhere with an internet connection.
For now, you can consider looking for third-party security applications that integrate with QBO and offer IP address filtering. I'll be glad to walk you through the steps below.
Moreover, if you want to manage all third-party app connections or need to transfer app ownership, you can refer to this article: Transfer app ownership or disconnect apps.
Feel free to come back if you have any other questions or concerns related to IP Address restriction in QuickBooks Online. We're always here to have your back.
Can you recommend some apps? I can't seem to find any apps related to login or IP in there.
As a company that prioritizes security, it's astonishing that an IP restriction feature still hasn't been developed after four years. Especially now, with more and more online systems, while MFA is reliable, it's surprising that such a simple feature like IP restriction has been challenging for you to implement.

Imagine telling somebody that the reason your product doesn't have a particular function is because it's designed to be flexible.
Indeed, the design is very flexible—but is it adaptable for the convenience of data leaks or something else? We're dealing with a scenario where if an employee is about to leave the company and accesses the system from a non-company location before their account is closed, we can only track it through an audit. However, the issue is that even if the data is returned, we can't be sure if it has already been copied. Of course, one could argue that the same thing could happen within the company, but that would be the responsibility of security gay. Diverse security measures are a confidence booster for customers.
Hello, Lyu.
I recognize the importance of having an IP Address restrictions in QBO for your security and privacy.
However, this is still unavailable. As we also don't recommend specific app for you to avail, it would be best reaching out to your IT support for further assistance.
In the meantime, you can consider submitting feedback or a request to our Product Developers as this will greatly help them in considering future feature releases.
To send your feedback:
I'll include this article to keep your account secure and learn how QuickBooks protects your financial data: Privacy and security in QuickBooks.
Let us know if you have further questions about IP Address restrictions. We'll be right here to help you at any time.

This thread is four years old, my dude.
I think it is safe to say, at this point, that the developers do not give a wooden whit about the contents of this forum, nor the feedback of their customers.
IP restrictions are only relevant for closed environments. QBO is a cloud-based application and its servers only block IPs based on country. But you can still bypass it with a reliable VPN application. Maybe what you need is an approval application to restrict certain workflows.
