I know that this hasn't been easy for you, johnfteel.

I some information about how QuickBooks handles your bank and payroll information.

If your bank register balance in QuickBooks Online doesn’t reflect your actual bank balance, several factors may cause the balances to vary. You would need to verify why they don’t match and fix them accordingly. Balances may not match for a number of reasons:

  • Outstanding transactions
  • New transactions for a connected account
  • Duplicate transactions
  • Edited or deleted transactions

With regard to your local tax setup, you can update your employee's withholding by going to the Payroll menu. Here's how to do it in QuickBooks Online Payroll Enhanced:

  1. Select Payroll from the sidebar menu.
  2. Go to the Employees tab.
  3. Select the employee's name.
  4. Under the Employee details, click Edit beside Pay.
  5. On the question about the employee's withholding, select the Edit icon.
  6. Go to Local Taxes and select the local tax jurisdiction.
  7. Hit Done to save the changes.

If using the QuickBooks Online Payroll Core, Elite, or Premium, local taxes will be automatically added based on the employee's address and work location. If you don't see the correct local tax jurisdiction, you'll have to contact our Payroll Support Team to set up the correct taxes for your location. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Help icon.
  2. Select Talk to a human.
  3. Enter "Talk to a human" again in the search bar.
  4. Choose I still need a human, then click Contact us.
  5. Select Get a callback or Send a message to start a conversation.

Moreover, depending on the processing time of your payroll service, you may be able to delete paychecks. After you’ve submitted the payroll, you can still void the paychecks up to 4:59 PM PST that day. After 5:00 PM, the system begins processing your payroll and we're unable to stop it anymore. To learn more about this topic, you can read this article: Delete or void employee paychecks.

In addition, here's a reference that you can read to help manage your payroll transactions in QuickBooks: Run payroll reports.

I'm just a post away if you have any other concerns or follow-up questions. Stay safe and have a productive week ahead.

This is not correct.  The owner or accountant should be able to correct and use quickbooks without Quickbooks having to fix it.  Again, they have too much power.  The local withholding is not set up correctly to begin with by Quickbooks.  In PA, you must separate the local into two, the Municipality and the School District.  There has to be two boxes checked.

I am in agreement with this issue and would like the controls removed, I have been doing this work for years and so has my cpa and the help desk does not know our business and or how to fix our individual issues.  I am still waiting several weeks for a payroll issue to be corrected and I cannot balance a check register that should have taken me 5 minutes. There is no reason for QB to have anything to do with my checking account if I am not using the connected account services and no reason for them to have any say with my taxes if I am paying them all manually. If you find a way to turn off this function, please let me know.  QB needs to be reminded we pay monthly for this software and it should be our decision which options we use.
