Thank you for reaching out to the Community. I'd be glad to provide some additional info about the .qbxml download.
QBXML files are commonly exported to backup financial data in XML format or to transfer QuickBooks data in a format that is more widely supported than QuickBooks formats. The file is not intended to be opened by QuickBooks.
There are a few limitation when we export files to QuickBooks Online. You can check this article for more details:
Also, I suggest to get in touch with our Intuit Developers to get more details about the additional characters in the QBXML file. Please click here.
In case you need further help from the Community team, please don't hesitate to reach out to me. Have a great day!
Thanks for the extra info on a QBXML file. I understand what it's used for as well as the limitations. I didn't find anything within your answer that helps me to download or export the file. Am I missing something? How can I obtain the file? Thanks!
Hello there, @peanutbuttercrea.
Thanks for following up on this thread. I'd be glad to provide information with exporting your QuickBooks Online company file.
In QuickBooks Online, there's a Visual Guide to Exporting that is a huge help to exporting your QuickBooks Online company to QuickBooks Desktop. The instructions here include the necessity to run both Internet Explorer and QuickBooks Desktop as administrator, adding necessary Intuit domains to your trusted sites and more.
I'm always a few clicks away if you have any more questions or concerns. Have a safe and productive rest of your day!
Hi - Thanks. I won't be using Quickbooks Desktop. I need to export/download the QBXML file for another service we're using. How can I just download the file on to my computer?
Hello peanutbuttercrea,
Since you don't need to export files to QuickBooks Desktop, I recommend going through our developer's page. From there, you can ask for ways to download or export the QBO files as QBXML.
Here's the link to reach them: https://www.developer.intuit.com/app/developer/homepage.
Just select the Help menu at the right top and choose QuickBooks Online. Then you can post a question regarding this matter and, our developers will assist you along the way.
Don’t hesitate to get back to us if you have an additional concern. We’re always here to lend a hand. Please keep safe.
Hi - Thanks. I am not able to post questions unless I have a developer account. I've created two different developer accounts and both say that I need to finish setting up the account now before I can post a question yet there are no instructions on how to "set up the account". I also cannot access support to call and ask how to do so. Are there any other resources that are less complicated than this? This seems ridiculous. I need one simple file.
Hello, @peanutbuttercrea.
I understand the importance of being able to download a QBXML file from QuickBooks Online (QBO). Though this option isn't directly available from QBO, we can use the steps suggested above to export the file from QBO to QuickBooks Dekstop (QBDT). If you don't want to subscribe to QBDT, you can download a trial version for the process. For your guide, check out this article.
Or, you may look for a third-party application that can help you export the file.
On the other hand, you can follow the steps outlined in these articles for your reference in setting up an Intuit Developer account successfully:
Keep in touch with me if you still need more help with this. I'll get back to you as quickly as I can. Keep safe!
Utilize the trial period of TP to export your data out to XLS/CSV.
