Hi there, @axtemplin.
Car-related expenses such as toll, fuel, and parking fees may be categorized under car and truck
expenses. QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) uses a simplified expense method to calculate the allowable business expense for your vehicle.
However, the rate is still based on the total mileage you drive, not on the actual expenses. I'd still recommend consulting your accountant for you to be guided properly on the best route to account for the toll road fees.
For more detailed information, you can check the following articles about examples about this category, as well as the list of categories we renamed and added, and where each account appear on various reports:

This is not an acceptable answer. Tolls and Parking Fees are allowed in addition to the standard mileage rate. There should be a way to account for this that would logically match the miles driven. Mile IQ offers the ability to do this.
This really isn't an acceptable answer. IRS does allow a standard mileage rate using to also deduct toll and parking fees. MileIQ allows an entry to be added manually to add in these fees with each trip. I really want to convert to QB but this is annoying because we have a good number of toll roads that I use regularly during business drives.
Hi axtemplin,
I'd like to jump in and add some information about categorizing your toll road fees.
Instead of using the travel expense category, you'll want to use the Parking and tolls (Schedule C: Car and truck). This way, all your toll road fees will be posted under the actual vehicle expense.
Please refer to this article for more information about the Schedule C: Car and truck.
The screenshot below will show you how it looks like.
