How do I remove the name of the current accountant for our business and add a new one? Our accountant views the online quickbooks for us.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the Community. I can provide some information in removing and adding an accountant in QuickBooks Online (QBO).


You can remove the current accountant from your company file by going to the Manage Users section. However, you must be logged in as the Master or Company Admin to execute this action.


Before deleting an accountant, check which Manage Users screen you have to determine which steps to take later in the process. Verify this by going to the Gear icon then Manage Users and by taking a look at the address bar of your browser.

 


If the link ends in usermgt, you have the new Manage Users interface. If it’s legacyusermgt, then you have the old one. 


Here are the steps in removing an account using the new and old interfaces.


To remove an accountant using the New Manage Users screen:
1.    Go to the Gear icon and then select Manage Users.
2.    Click the Accountants tab, then locate the name of the accountant you wish to remove.
3.    From the Action drop-down, choose Delete.
4.    Hit Delete in the confirmation window.

 

 


To remove an accountant using the Old Manage Users screen:
1.    Go to the Gear icon and then select Manage Users.
2.    In the Accounting Firms section, select accountant row.
3.    Select Delete.
4.    Hit Yes to confirm.


Once done, you are now ready to add the new accountant. Follow the steps below if you’re using the new Manage Users screen:
1.    Go to the Gear icon and select Manage Users.
2.    Click the Accountants tab and select Invite Accountant.
3.    Enter the accountant’s name and email address, then hit Save.

I dont have any action buttons and I am the master admin. I need to remove one of the accountants.

We can perform a few browser troubleshooting steps, DriftwoodAcc.

 

Piled-up cache within the main browser may cause the buttons not to show. We can verify that by logging into a private browser and then remove access to one of your accountants. You can follow the steps above shared by my colleague on how to do that. You can use this article as well for more details. 

 

Here are keyboard shortcuts that you can use when opening a private browser:

  • Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox: Ctrl + Shift + P
  • Safari: Command + Option + P

If you're able to remove the access, you can go back to the main browser and clear the cache. Other supported browsers can also help us get rid of any unexpected behavior. 

 

After doing these steps and you're still unable to remove access to your accountant, I'd suggest getting in touch with our Phone Support Team. They can look into your account and walk you through some advanced steps on how to remove accountant access.
