@bradnic I just got off the phone with QBO Support. I did the screen share with them too, first via the SmartLook bit built into QBO, then with Intuit Glance, their actual screen sharing software. When we did that one, the agent was able to actually see how the connection fails immediately because I was able to pull the popup window out of the way in time. I was told it was going to be escalated.
I will say that this is my first experience with a Customer Service agent who blatantly ignored my request for a Supervisor. Can't wait until I get the survey.
got an email from the quickbooks commerce folks yesterday asking for more info.
no updates after that. still not fixed.
@JSpiers667x you're right that 571 error pops up immediately when you try to connect to Shopify Balance from QBO. It's there as soon as the login dialog box pops up, before you even enter your user id!
The customer service response suggesting a 571 is caused by user error closing the reconnect dialog is clearly wrong.
I'm done trying to get this to work. dropping the shopify connector and switching to a 3rd party service.
so... I deleted the account settings in the shopify connector yesterday as part of a troubleshooting effort with the Commerce support folks. Adding the info back in and connecting failed, and no connector setup was present. This morning I added the Commerce app and after about an hour it did successfully import the info I needed.
There's been no feedback from the support team on my ticket yesterday, and no other updates.
I did try a 3rd party service as well, A2X, which successfully read a few months of shopify transactions. It's very expensive though for what is basically an API gateway service, even with a discount code. It also time limits what you can send over to 3 months on the basic service tier.
posting some screenshots that I hope will assist others. I've also written to the QBO Commerce folks as I think the whole setup is unnecessarily confusing.
1) This was my original setup for Shopify Balance import (shows as "Cash" tile)- a connector that appeared on the bank transactions page. Shopify Balance transactions would appear on this tab. This connector stopped working with the 571 and 350 errors people have reported. This setup stopped working for me Oct 1 2023.
This is the new setup using the QBO Commerce app. It does more than Shopify Balance - you see orders, payouts and a summary. The payout transactions show up in the App transactions tab instead of the bank
transactions tab. The old Cash / Shopify Balance connector on the bank transactions page is now gone.
from the Commerce menu you can now also access order info and a financial summary, which is quite nice. Other sales channels supported by Commerce would show up too.
I have been using "Shopify Connector" and it does the same thing regarding pulling all sales and payout transactions into the commerce section.
What I am missing is the standard bank transactions, like paying my credit card bills from the Shopify Balance account, and the current cash balance in the Shopify Balance account. Those are the transactions that were very helpful from an accounting standpoint that came in fine when connected through the traditional bank and credit card route. Does anyone know of either a paid or free solution to getting those kinds of transactions imported? Thanks!
@mikewiggins confirmed here as well. so clearly QBO Commerce is insufficient. The previous Shopify Balance setup I had *did* transfer everything until it stopped working.
there is a paid app called A2X that works, but it's pricey for what it does.
I can’t stomach paying when every other bank account and credit card connects for free and it s simply a coding error that QB is unable to fix. It could be on the Shopify side but the evidence seems to point to QB.
Does anyone know anyone who is currently connected to Shopify Balance in the traditional way without a problem?
still no updates from QBO
QBO team reached out. They should have some news in the next biz day or two.
Nice, that's good to hear. They still haven't reached out to me but I can't say I'm surprised. I wasn't terribly friendly with the Customer Service Agent I talked to on the phone. My patience didn't last long after having to repeatedly tell him to pull the microphone away from his mouth because he was eating it and I couldn't understand him.
still no word, still not working
I am also having this issue.
i'm having this issue also!
THIS is a determining factor if I continue to use QuickBooks or a competitor so I hope you fix it asap. I am switching to Shopify Balance completely as my checking because they don't charge fees like Chase Business Banking. I have 2 QuickBook accounts.
Thanks to everyone pushing to get QuickBooks to fix something that should absolutely be working. I refuse to pay a 3rd party and will just find a different platform. As someone mentioned, this is like not being able to connect any other bank like WellsFargo or any major credit card companies.
It still doesn't work but there seems to be a new message on the sign-in screen. I had already tried this several times. I would imagine this is a sign that Shopify and QB have been talking about this issue?
I do see that new info. I also noticed the "immediate fail with a 571" behavior is different. It takes several seconds to fail now, not immediate. I still get the. blank dialog after logging in to Shopify.
what really gets me is the lack of communication and poor documentation on error messages. Still have no clue on what the 571 is for. seems to be a 'something went wrong and we have no clue' message. that leaves their support team in a terrible place. in the meantime we're reading tea leaves.
I have no doubt shopify is partially responsible for the lack of progress here. you call their support folks and they feign ignorance. it's an INTERFACE. there are two ends to it. BOTH parties have support obligations here.
Please fix it!
I would imagine that "Shopify Balance" is more like a stand-alone bank than an internal division of Shopify. This makes me wonder, does 'SB' have it's own support team? Or dies the standard Shopify team have to deal with things like this? The federal regulations regarding banking have got to be a whole different ball of wax in regards to data safety, etc. Has anyone had any luck feeling confident they are dealing with Shopify folks who are experts on the banking side? I have not.
Shopify Balance is from Evolve Bank & Trust
ShopPay is Stripe
they know what they're doing...
It is an online bank covered just like any other bank by the FDIC up to $450,000.00. It just offers you easy access to your money, no fees, and good interest on balance. I hope Intuit gets it together or we will have to find another solution. When trying to connect to Shopify Balance Account it is the Intuit pop up window that is going blank and not verifying Shopify login. Customer support does not know what they are doing. They wanted me to add the Shopify connection to intuit. I already use a much better connection for my store. The part they can't get in there head is this is not store connection its Shopify Balance Bank Connection. I have pasted some info below in hope that someone from Intuit will be able to figure this out and resolve it very quick as we are not waiting months for an update. If it was not available to connect to Shopify Balance then it would not have it as a bank choice when trying to connect it to Intuit.
