Hello, @phoneman421.
It's nice to see you here in the Community forum. I can definitely share the steps you need to change your view in your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.
Your default view is based on what you told us when you first set up QuickBooks. Rest assured, your accounts or data won't be affected when switching between them at any time.
If you're referring to these views, here's how you can switch between those two:
However, if you're not referring to these options, can you please provide us with additional information or screenshots of what you mean by the previous version views?
If you need more time navigating QuickBooks, I suggest you take a test drive. This is for you to dive in and experiment with features and options you might not feel comfortable trying in your own QuickBooks Online account.
Additionally, feel free to save these resources that will help you with personalizing your QBO account to whatever you need to change:
Keep me updated on how these steps turn out and let me know if you have any other concerns by dropping a comment below. Have a great day!
I'm aware of the Business view and Account View but that is not what Im talking about.
I used to could click INVOICES and then of the choices would be OPEN. I understand that it can be done in this new way but there are several things I liked about QB before the format was recently changed.
It is difficult to remeber all the details but I would like to go back to the other version.
Is that posible or not??
Lee
Thanks for getting back here in the thread, @phoneman421. I've got your back, and I'll be happy to help you get this sorted out so you can use QuickBooks Online (QBO) and have the old layout display on your screen.
Before we proceed, may I ask if you would like to create an invoice using the old layout display? If so, know that we can modify it by clicking the Old layout button in the upper-right corner of your invoice. I'll gladly input the steps below so you can proceed with the process. To begin, here's how:
Know that you won't be able to use the new layout if you make these changes. You'll have to create a new account to use the new features. For visual reference, see the screenshot below so you can switch back and use the old layout for your invoices.
Additionally, here's an article to help manage invoices payments in QBO: Record invoice payments in QuickBooks Online.
You can also check this page to learn more about customizing report to see specific data in QBO: Customize reports in QuickBooks Online.
Should you need further assistance managing your invoices in QBO? Or do you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns? Know that you can always get back to me anytime. It'll be my pleasure to help you out again. Take care, and have a nice day, @phoneman421.
I am having the same issue I think as she is. I switched to the business view and when I went back to accountant view. my invoices and estimate views are different. I can no longer switch back and forth from the old to the new. I just have the old version. I prefer the new version of the invoicing and estimates.
Thanks for joining the thread, @tiawhit.
Once we switch back to the old invoice layout, we still have the option to go back to the new format. All you have to do is simply open again the sales transaction and click Try the new invoices from the upper right corner of the screen. Then, select again Try new invoice.
Please take note that switching from a business or accountant view won't affect the invoice layout. I'd also appreciate it if you can share a screenshot with us. That way, we can review it and provide you with the right solution.
In the meantime, let's open your account in private to check if the issue is cache-related. There are times that too much cache build-up can cause unexpected behavior with the product. This can be the reason why you're unable to see this option. You can press the following shortcut keys to access this mode:
If you're able to alter your preferences, then let's clear the cache in your web browser or try using a different supported browser. It could be a temporary issue with QuickBooks and the current browser that you use.
Moreover, we can freely switch back from old to new preferences at any time. Just click Old layout or Try the new invoices from the invoice window and you can continue with your business.

Please let me know if you need further clarification about the new experience. I'm always to provide answers to your QuickBooks queries. Have a nice day!
I have the same issue. I am trying to go back to the new version and I used the steps you suggested and it didn’t work. Someone from the help desk told me it was impossible after we downloaded a new web browser (chrome) onto my computer and it still didn’t work.
This should be a simple thing, but it appears from the thread that you are not understanding at all. Clearly, QB performed an update. When logging in, everything is different on the screen. I have to navigate 6 screens to get to something that used to be easily accessible on the left hand menu with one click. How do we switch back to the original view when logging in? We want to undo this unnecessary update/change to the screen display.
Thank you for joining the thread, @no1916.
We want to ensure to help you in every way possible. Would you mind sharing a screenshot of your question? This is to help us determine the best resolution appropriate for you.
Feel free to reply to this post if you need further assistance. Have a great day ahead!
no, it has our companies financial info all over it. Did QB update the way online displays onscreen? The answer is yes. The menus have changed, the way you have to navigate the different screens has changed. 'Projects' used to be clearly displayed on the left hand menu. Now, you have to search through several screens just to get to the 'Projects' button. I am unsure of how else to explain something so simple.
Maybe think of it as Windows upgrading from 10 to 11 but wanting to go back to 10. Understand? QB did an update to the display, I want to undo that update.
I understand that the previous interface is more convenient since you're already used to its features, no1916. However, we're unable to undo how the features were displayed before.
You can use the accountant view as it's most likely what you're used to seeing. From here, the Project menu is located on the left panel. I've added a screenshot below as a visual guide.
If you're in business view, you'll find the Project menu from the Business overview page.
For the Windows version, QuickBooks still requires Windows 10, Intel Core i5, or a comparable processor (2015 or newer) with at least 4 GB of RAM. This article will tell you more about the requirements needed while using QuickBooks: Find out what computer and browser to use.
Please know that your voice matters and being able to use QuickBooks seamlessly is our top priority. That being said, I'll let you send feedback to the Product Development Team. Agree, the new menu and layout appears needlessly complex. I concede that some of the features might be welcome for some users and it looks like there has been some attempt to allow the user to customize the menu and I like the idea, but the implementation is quite poor.
Suggestions here include using Accountant View, which I have done and that's probably close enough, but I also wanted to see how the menu customization feature worked.
For example, I frequently look at several Reports, it would be easier if that link was on the main menu. My first attempt to customize the menu was to pare down what I typically don't use and that feature appeared to do what it was intended to do.
Next, I had to go searching for Reports, which I eventually found and on that menu there is the right side selection "allows" you to make "Reports" into a bookmark. That would be okay, except it doesn't actually work. You actually have to go to the Bookmarks tab and then scroll down and select what you want to save.
I think that if they want to load up the menu with features that's fine, I am unhappy with the current implementation, but I think I understand what they are driving at. If we could have slightly more control over which menu items we have direct, immediate access to, that would be lovely and would thus, serve everyone's individual unique needs.
Goes without saying of course that my experiment above was interrupted several times by offers to FUND my invoices or acquire QB Capital and of course, a feedback form/survey asking me how I like QB.
Me too. I accidentally switch to old layout and can't switch back to new. I need the new one as soon as possible.
Let me help ensure you can use QuickBooks Online (QBO) using the old layout, structionbuilders.
To clarify, are you referring to the account display? If so, follow the steps below to return to the desired view.
Here's how:
Here's an article that discusses in detail how each feature works: Switch between Business and Accountant view in QuickBooks Online.
If you mean going back to the old invoice layout, you'll have to select the Old layout option. For the step-by-step process, I recommend following the solution shared by @Kurt_M above.

I need to know when did this change? My new client is using the new view and has created a mess. My issue is that now there is no place to click below an invoice to audit the transaction to see what happened and when. I need to fix several transactions and just asking the client what happened is not going to work.
Thanks for sharing a screenshot of the invoice, sooverit2.
The new layout has been implemented for a while now. Although, not all customers are using it since the update was released in increments.
Here's an article that talks about this changes for more details: See What’s New With Estimates and Invoices in QuickBooks Online.
You'll want to use the Audit Log report. Similar to what you can see in the old invoice, this will let you review all changes made to the transactions. Here's how:
Let me share these articles for additional reference about using this feature:
Don't hesitate to get back here and let me know if you're able to find out what happened to the transactions. We're always here if you need anything else.
Thank you for the conversation. I was able to get back to the previous view that I had gotten comfortable with by switching to "accountant view". Going forward, I do not think that automatic changes to our view should be allowed. I appreciate an attempt to improve things, but if what I'm doing works for me and allows me to get through this small piece of my business quickly, I don't want to start over learning how to navigate all the time. I guess...if it's not broken, don't fix it! We should be able to say if we're having an issue and the "fix" should apply only to those who have requested it. You may offer it to others, but don't just change it without notice, please.
This is an attempt to justify the ever increasing fees Intuit charges as they refuse to fix known issues, and add more functions few people need or want.
This does not work. There is no option , in either business view nor accountant view, to change back to the old layout. I HATE THIS NEW LAYOUT. Has anyone figured out how to go back? It now takes me several steps to do a task that used to take me one step. When doing this hundreds of times a week, the time adds up!
I can see that the previous interface was more convenient for you, given your familiarity with its features, @taiterx.
At the moment, the option to revert back to the old display is unavailable in the program. I understand that these changes may have impacted your efficiency in recording transactions within QuickBooks, and I am here to assist you in any way I can to help you adjust to the new interface.
That said, I'd suggest sending feedback to our developers. That way, they can review your request and potentially incorporate any necessary updates in the future. Here's how:

I am wanting the old layout on all my reports, it does not save and need to click it everytime, any permanent solution?

When I click into new invoice there is no option for old layout, the only options are
MANAGE // TAKE TOUR// FEEDBACK
there is no old layout button as I see written in all of the articles. I too would like to switch back to the old layout for invoices and cannot figure out how to do it. Any help would be much appreciated
thank you
Hi Mamabirdfarm,
Welcome to the Community. I can clarify things about the ability to switch invoice layouts in QuickBooks Online.
Simple Start users migrated to the new invoice experience will have no option to switch to the old layout. For now, the feature is only available in the higher versions of QuickBooks Online.
I know how beneficial it is to change the layout to your preferred invoice display. Know that our product engineers provide updates regularly to improve the features and options, including the navigation.
As we assess this, I recommend sending feedback about the option you need directly to our engineers. We also make changes and adjustments based on user feedback.
Here's how:
There are a lot of things you can do with the new estimates and invoices in QBO. For more information about the features available, check out this article: See what’s new with estimates and invoices in QuickBooks Online.
