If you are on QuickBooks Online: Go to reports, use the search bar and type in General Ledger. Enter. It will create a report. Scroll all the way to the top of the report and you can customize the dates you want. Click Run Report. Go to the icons at the top right and hit the one with the box and curved arrow. Choose export to Excel. That should export the data for you and you will be able to work with it in Excel.
Hi there, dolosc1094,
Adobe file is the default when downloading reports in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
You can select another format from the drop-down list upon opening the file. This is to ensure you're able to open it in Excel.
Let me show you how;
You can also refer to the Reports link so you can customize, run, and share financial statements.
Don't hesitate to leave a comment below if there's anything else you need. I'm always glad to help you out.
When you click download, it immediately downloads a PDF. No other option.
That's right, Jrlawr.
Reports from QuickBooks Self-Employed are downloaded in PDF format.
There are a few ways to get transaction info in QuickBooks Self-Employed. You can go to the Reports menu and run financial reports. Or, if you want a detailed list of all your transactions, you can export them into a CSV file.
Run financial reports:
Download your transactions:
If you need to make changes or reorganize your transactions, it's best to do it in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
If you reimport the CSV, you need to recategorize your transactions after you import. Doing this will help ensure your taxes are accurate.
Stay in touch with me if there are other things you need in QBSE. I'll be around to provide the information.
How is there no way to download a .csv file? This is insane.
Nice to have you joined this thread, @aara22.
QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) downloads your report to PDF file as default. You can only download your Transactions and Tax Details as MS Excel file
Also, importing a .CSV file is only available in uploading bank transactions. I see how beneficial it is to your business to download a report as a .csv file. Rest assured, our Product team is always looking for ways in improving QuickBooks to help our users run their business seamlessly.
In the meantime, you'll want to look for a converter tool that lets you convert your .pdf file to Excel and .csv. Moreover, to stay updated on the latest news and updates about QuickBooks, I recommend checking our QuickBooks Blog page.

Absolute insanity. My mistake to just assume that this would have been an option. Actually renders this almost useless for me.
There is no search bar when I click on the reports tab. No way to find "General Ledger." What's the deal with this?
Hi there, @foxmassagellc.I understand how important it is for you to have access to this feature when accessing your report, and I'm here to assist you.
Usually, unexpected behavior within the system is caused by browser-related issues. Regular browser stores cache files that make frequently accessed sites such as QuickBooks don't function well. To help resolve this issue, I can provide you with some troubleshooting steps that may help bring back the search bar on the Reports tab. To begin, open your account incognito. Private mode will give you a clean slate to prevent errors when running websites.
Below are the keyboard shortcuts you can use:
Google Chrome: Ctrl + Shift +N
Mozilla Firefox and Microsoft Edge: Ctrl + Shift + P
Safari (latest version): Command + Shift + N
If it works, you’ll want to clear your main browser’s cache. By doing so, it can help the program run faster and more efficiently. You can also use other supported browsers except for Internet Explorer as an alternative.
