Subscription has been renewed, but the renew subscription! icon persists and there is no way to remove since there is no option to update the active status. How do I fix

Welcome aboard to the Intuit Community, tez828.

To identify why the subscription alert still shows in QuickBooks, I have to check billing details. I'm unable to request the sensitive information required to pull up your account to look at the subscription.

I suggest you get in touch with our Technical Support Team. They have tools to trace where the issue is stemming from.

Once identified, our support specialists will provide the resolution on how to resolve the error message. This way, you'll be able to use QuickBooks and all its features seamlessly.

To get the full contact details, follow the steps below:

  1. Tap the Help menu to select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. This will take you to the Have a Question window.
  3. From there, press the Contact us link to see the Contact Us screen.
  4. Hit the Search for something else link and then enter the issue or topic in the field box.
  5. Choose Search to display the Message Us feature.

For future reference, here’s an article that provides an overview of how to fix payroll subscription errors. It also contains screenshots for visual reference: Update or renew your subscription.

Reach out to me if you have any other concerns. I’m more than happy to assist further. Have a good one.

We can also update QuickBooks to its latest release, kristy0404.

It keeps the software up-to-date to have the latest features and fixes. Let me show you how:

Go to this link:

  1. From the Country drop-down, select United States (US)

  3. Hit Search
  4. Click the Get the latest updates link.
  5. Once the download finishes, open the file to install the update.
  6. After the install, restart your computer.

The Update or Renew your Subscription article have different kinds of prompts. You can look into the article on how to resolve the specific error you got after updating QuickBooks.

If you get the same thing, I suggest getting in touch with our Phone Support Agents. Please follow the steps give by my colleague above on how to connect with us.

Subscription has been renewed, but the renew subscription! icon persists and there is no way to remove since there is no option to update the active status. How do I fix

Hello, @hughscott.

If your QuickBooks Desktop and Payroll is up to date, then I recommend renaming the paysub.ini file within your account. Other customers like you have found this as a solution to remove the renew subscription icon/message. Here's how:

  1. Back up your company file.
  2. Right-click on the Windows Start button and choose File Explorer.
  3. Select Rename after you right-click the file.
  4. Change the file name from paysub.ini to a new name and hit Enter.
  5. Pick Yes.

Here's an extra link that may come in handy: Rename your QuickBooks Desktop file.

If you're still having issues after trying these steps, then I suggest contacting our Support Team. They have additional tools to look further into your account and to help point you in the right direction of the file to rename or delete.

Let me know if this helps. Have a great Monday!

Same issue here too. Had it last year as well. I have no idea what to try next....lost five hours of my life on tech support only to hit a dead end.  It has been an issue for a lot of users so why hasn't it been fixed?

Thanks for joining on this thread, @Controller2020.

We have an open investigation (INV-43437) where users are seeing the renew or reactivate subscription message on the company file. Our product engineers are closely working on the resolution to fix this problem.

While waiting for the permanent solution, I suggest signing up for the list of affected users. This way, you’ll be notified about the progress of the investigation.

I know you've already given our Payroll Support Team a call, but I recommend giving it another try. One of our specialists will add the company in a secure space.

Instead of calling us, you can get real-time help via the Message Us feature. This option will help save business time.

  1. Tap the Help menu at the top of the company file to see the contact details.
  2. Choose QuickBooks Desktop Help to open the Have a Question window.
  3. Hit the Contact us link to see the Contact Us screen.
  4. Choose the Search for something else link and then key in the issue in the field box.
  5. Press Search to display the Start a Message menu.

Rest assured, this issue is taken with utmost urgency. I'll also update this thread once more information is available about the investigation.
