Trying to export online back to desktop?

Thanks for taking the time to visit the Community today, pete36.

I'll be sharing the first out of six steps in exporting QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT). Before that, let's make sure we meet the system requirements for a successful conversion. Check out this article to learn more: Export limitations - QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop

Once the requirements are met, let's set up the security settings in Internet Explorer.

  1. Right-click the Internet Explorer icon.
  2. Select Run as administrator.
  3. Go to the Tools icon, then Internet Options.
  4. Select Security, then Trusted sites.
  5. Click Sites.
  6. In the Add this website to the zone field, enter: *.intuit.com.
  7. Make sure Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is unchecked.
  8. Close the Trusted Sites window.
  9. Make sure Enable Protected Mode is unchecked.
  10. Select Apply, then Okay. Leave Internet Explorer open.

To learn more about converting your company file, please read through this article: Export your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

You may also want to visit our Get QuickBooks Desktop user guides article for additional guidance on how you can navigate the desktop version.

You're always welcome to comment below if you have other concerns or follow up inquiries about managing transactions in QBO. I'm just around to help. Take care always.

Trying to export online back to desktop?

Unfortunately not.

I spent another 2 hours between the dumb azz chats and then finally a phone call and they still could not get it to work.

I even then saw an answer well, possible answer and tried that and I can not even import the excel reports individually???

I dont get it. Well I do get it they want you stuck on the over priced QBO

Trying to export online back to desktop?

I can see you've been through a lot converting your Online data to Desktop. Let's perform other troubleshooting steps to resolve this, @pete36.

Currently, Internet Explorer (IE) is the supported browser in QuickBooks Desktop. However, this browser isn't supported in QBO.

You can use the following URL to initiate the download in Internet Explorer as a workaround: http://qbo.intuit.com/app/exportqbodatatoqbdt. Then, prepare to export your QuickBooks Online data by following these steps:

  1. Go to the Get Started button in the Export Overview window.
  2. Choose Install under ActiveX Control Now.
  3. When it's finished, click Continue.
  4. Select the data you want to export, then choose Continue.
  5. Review the limitations and click Continue.
  6. Enter your contact info and then select Continue.

Once done, you can use this article to complete the process. From there, go directly to Step 4: Finish exporting your dataExport your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop.

I've also added this article that can provide additional guidance on how to navigate the desktop version: Get QuickBooks Desktop user guides.

Feel at ease to let me know how it goes. I'll be here to help you if you need further assistance in exporting data in QuickBooks. Keep safe always.

Trying to export online back to desktop?

Sorry, but this method no longer works, even with the settings adjustments for IE that are recommended.

As soon as I log in to QBO, the screen goes completely blank, preventing further progress.

Can you please raise this internally to see how soon it can be corrected?

We all love QBO, but sometimes we need to export to QBDT to run a specific report.

Thank you.

Thank you for trying the steps, InOD-Ron.

At this point, I would recommend contacting our Support team, so they can check this out further. They can use a screen-sharing tool to see you creating a backup and to check the root cause of the issue.

  1. Click on Help and type a short message about migration.
  2. If you get suggested topics, type in I still need a human.
  3. If you get suggested topics again, choose I still need a human.
  4. Choose Contact Us.

Let me know if you have other questions in mind. Have a good day!

Trying to export online back to desktop?

Hey InOD-Ron, I just got done dealing with support chat and I may have a solution. After you log in and get the blank page, replace the word "homepage" in the address bar with "?useAppfabricSPA=false" (without the double quotes). Once I did that, it displayed and allowed me to use QBO in IE 11 and I was able to export my data.

Original URL: https://c71.qbo.intuit.com/app/homepage

Working URL: https://c71.qbo.intuit.com/app/?useAppfabricSPA=false

Thanks for the tips on how to reach a human - that's so valuable in seeking support!

Here's an update: the screen going blank upon logging in to QBO using IE 11 is a "known issue" at Intuit.

Regrettably, several weeks later, it is still unresolved.  Without this capability, QBO can no longer be exported to QBDT.  When or whether, if ever, Intiuit will fix this issue, is unknown.

I took the case all the way through to Data Services, who are next in line behind the engineers, in understanding how everything works, and they said they would add my name to the ongoing "investigation," to be notified when thee issue is fixed.  I'm not holding my breath.

Replying to the other post, suggesting replacing "/homepage" at the end of the URL for the blanked page with "/?useAppfabricSPA=false":

Great idea!  And it works - but only up to a point.

When you get to the "Learn more" at the "Moving to QuickBooks Desktop?" question, it takes you to a help page about exporting via Excel, not to the next step in what used to be the usual direct export to QBDT process.

Looks increasingly like they really don't want you to be able to do this any more.  Makes no sense, because they make money anyway (unless they are afraid that QBDT is a superior product to QBO).

Bad news -- but thanks for the tip!

@vegessa

Make sure you are using QBO US version. Otherwise, you will need a workaround to convert data to QBD US version.
