Two stage verification

For most of the time I have been using QB I have not had "two stage verification" on my log in.

In the last couple weeks, I have needed to log in and receive a verification code.   This is a new thing and I simply don't need it.

I have sought ways to turn if off, and there are instructions available.

However, on my Security screen, there is no such option to turn this off.

Is it still possible to turn off the two stage?

Is this a new "standard" for QB?   I can live with it, but it is a pain in the butt to have to go through this every log in.

Can someone help?

Two stage verification

Hello @dericksturke,

Two-factor authentication is intended to provide additional security as a requirement for customers upon login. Even if you've turned it off from the security settings, it'll still ask for a code sent via email or mobile number.

This article will discuss more of this section: Additional login and confirmation code. Even if this article is tagged for QuickBooks Payments, the same principle applies as it discusses your login confirmation.

Additionally, I've also included this reference for a compilation of articles you can use while working with us: Account Management for QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other questions, please let me know by leaving any comments below. I'll be here to lend a hand.

Two stage verification

Thank you for the response.   It sort of answers my question.

I do understand the purpose for this two stage security.

At risk of redundancy in asking the question, here is the scenario I laid out.

Up until a week or so ago, I did not need to go through "Two Factor".   I could type in my password and access my account.   Period.

Now, I must go through Two Factor every log in.   Where I never had to before.

Was this a change made on Quickbooks end or did I unwittingly change a setting?

I found instructions for disabling Two Factor, but when going to the page instructed, the option was not there on the page.

Is this something new for Quickbooks in the last few weeks?

Two stage verification

I'd like you access your QBO account smoothly, @dericksturke.

You've got me here to ensure that the two-step verification for your account won't show up every time you log in to your account.

Let's try accessing your account in a private window. Performing this process will help determine if the issue has something to do with your browser.

Sites like QuickBooks Online store these files to save you time while loading repetitive information and images. There are times that the accumulated cache and cookies in the system become corrupted, causing unexpected behavior in the system like being ask for the two-step verification everytime you log in to your account.

You may use these shortcut keys to launch the window:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N for Google Chrome
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Mozilla Firefox
  • Ctrl + Shift + P for Microsoft Edge
  • Command + Shift + N for Safari

If it works fine, you can go back to your regular browser and clear its cache. Clearing these files, QuickBooks will load a new version of everything displayed on the page.

You can check out this article for the detailed steps: Clear my browser cache and temporary Internet files.

I also suggest running the Health Checkup Tool. It is used to check multiple aspects of the browser to ensure the application runs seamlessly.

However, if doing this doesn't make a difference, I suggest reaching out to our Customer Care Team. They have the necessary tools that can help check the reason behind this matter.

You can contact them by following these steps below:

  1. Click on Help at the top menu bar.
  2. Hit on the Contact Us button.
  3. Enter a brief description of the issue in the What can we help you with? box.
  4. Press on Let's talk.
  5. Select on Get a callback.
  6. Key in your contact details, then tap on Confirm my call.

Feel free to get back to me if you need anything else. I'll be around to help. Keep safe!

Two stage verification

Thank you so much for your response!

I cannot explain this, but after a week or so of the two stage authorization, I logged on today, and my account opened without the verification needed.

I have no idea how or why as -- to the best of my knowledge -- I have made no changes to any security settings!

Gremlins?

I see how this goes over the next few days and definitely keep your note around in case I need to pursue this further.

Again, thank you very much!
