Which QB Desktop year version do you have? QB Desktop 2023?
Hello there! I recognize the importance of knowing why you must renew your account subscription in QuickBooks Desktop, @cmatt74.
I can assist you in understanding why renewing your subscription to QBDT is necessary. Starting from 2022, QuickBooks Desktop has transitioned to a subscription-based model. After purchasing a license, you will need to renew your subscription annually to continue using the application. This means that you have to pay again for the it.
Moreover, the subscription model offers customers the advantage of receiving continuous support and regular updates for the software, the latest security improvements, monitoring its performance, and quickly addressing any issues. Overall, this update will ensure that Intuit remains reliable, efficient, and always up-to-date for you.
As a disclaimer, if you don't renew your account, you will have the option to view only your data for at least a year after your subscription ends. Also, if you prefer to continue your QBDT subscription, check this part of the article: Renew your QuickBooks Desktop subscription.
If you want to learn how to export reports from your QBDT account to Excel, you can read this article for guidance: Export reports as Excel workbooks in QuickBooks Desktop.
Feel free to get back to us by hitting the reply button if you have further questions regarding QBDT subscription. The Community forum is always here to help you.
Seems to me tha once I buy the desktop software I should be able to choose future support and updates or not. Why should my desktop software stop functioning? Like if I buy my car outright and decide to stop paying for insurance, my car will quit running. I can look at it for one year, then it will disappear~
You misunderstand the concept of "license". A license is simply permission to use a piece of software. You never have it. Something similar happens when you rent a car.
Good Day
I purchased Quickbooks Pro Desktop In South Africa we have huge problems with our network connection
Can I Still use Quickbooks Pro without going the online route
You can still use QB Desktop and they still offer QB Desktop 2024 to purchase.
If you are located in South Africa, you most likely have QB Desktop UK version.
I appreciate you for joining this thread, and I'm here to provide additional information about using QuickBooks Desktop, Jean49.
Is your QuickBooks Desktop already registered? If not, please know that your QuickBooks Desktop company file needs to be activated. This ensures QuickBooks runs smoothly.
However, since you're using QuickBooks Desktop in South Africa, you may experience challenges when it comes to network connection. There may be compatibility issues with network configurations or security protocols due to the differences in the location and the product. It may result in difficulties in establishing a stable and secure connection to the QuickBooks servers.
You'll want to start by researching the major network providers in your area. Then, look for which provider offers the best service in your location that 's most compatible with QuickBooks Desktop.
Still, I recommend checking this article for additional information about QBDT: Renew your subscription or use view-only mode in QuickBooks Desktop.
Post again if you have concerns about QuickBooks. We'll be around to assist you.

Which QB Desktop year version do you have?
I totally agree with you. the company I deal with is so small it's not worth $600 renewal subscription. there has to be a way around it.
Do you need to run any add-ons? e.g Payroll
I’m wondering the same thing. We’re a small company and it’s $999 to renew. Did you find anything out about this?
Only QB Desktop with no payroll?
So we just paid $850 for our payroll renewal and now it's going to be $999 for quickbooks 2024 annual subscription renewal next month. This seems crazy to me!
You may have 2 options:
1. Cancel your Enhanced Payroll subscription within 60 days, request a refund and replace it with a third-party payroll application to sync with QB Desktop Plus.
2. Keep your Enhanced Payroll Subscription and use QB Desktop with a non-subscription license. You will register payroll expenses as JE manually in QB Desktop to lower your total costs.
Quickbook online just increased the monthly fee from 30 dollars a month to 35 dollars a month and I have not even had the online version for one year. If the price keeps increasing people will find an alternative program to use or stick with the desktop version with no support. Expenses are increasing daily and people will eventually stop subscribing to online products.
switching to zoho books myself... Intuit obviously HATES their customers and especially the Desktop customers...
