Hi there, matt100,

I've got the steps so you can smoothly export your QuickBooks Online (QBO) data to Desktop (QBDT).

First, you need to use Internet Explorer 11. It is the newest version of this browser and is also a requirement when you move your data.

How to upgrade Internet Explorer

  1. Close QBDT.
  2. Follow the steps for your Windows operating system to upgrade to Internet Explorer 11.
  3. Reopen QBDT.

Check out the Upgrade Internet Explorer to open QuickBooks Desktop page for more details about the steps above.

After that, please follow and make sure not to skip any of the steps outlined in this article: Export and convert your QuickBooks Online data to QuickBooks Desktop to prevent issues during the migration process.

Let me know if you have follow-up questions. Just mention my name, and I'll get back to you.

Thank you and stay safe!

I'm trying to convert Desktop Quickbooks, but the process of using IE isn't working.  IE keeps spinning away and never let's me get to the part where I can export the data.  I've tried this on 2 separate computers.

Hello, @Rodelj.

There are possible reasons why you cannot transfer your data to QuickBooks Desktop.

One possible reason is, your Internet Explorer is already an old version.

I recommend the upgrade to Internet Explorer 11. This will help you to transfer your data smoothly.

You must also be logged in as an Admin user on both QuickBooks Online and Desktop for this process to work.

You can refer to this article for complete detail on how to export data from QuickBooks Online to Desktop.

If you successfully convert your data to QuickBooks Desktop, I suggest you run two reports, Profit and Loss and Balance Sheet in both, QuickBooks Online and Desktop to ensure your data was transferred correctly.

Feel free to fill me in if you have any other questions. Have a nice day!
