Two QB accounts

I am selling my company and have 23+ years in my QB DESKTOP that I need to share with the new owner. I am going to set up another QB account for them. What is the best way to transfer all the data from first to second?

Which QB Desktop year version and edition do you have?

Open your company file and hit CTRL 1 keys. How big is the file size?

Is the owner using QB Desktop?

I've got all the information you need regarding transferring your old files to the new QuickBooks company file, gwynnMVP.

We can seamlessly move your files by exporting the list and then importing them to the new company file. Ensure to create a backup copy before you start.

To begin exporting, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the File menu in QuickBooks, select Utilities followed by Export, and choose Lists to IIF Files.
  2. Pick the specific list you wish to export and hit OK.
  3. Browse the location where you want to save your file and click Save.

Next, you can move on to Step 3, where you'll import the list into the new company file for a comprehensive guide on the process: Export lists from the old company file into a new data file.

Additionally, you can generate reports to ensure that all data has been transferred accurately.

You're always welcome to post again if you need further assistance managing your files or anything related to QuickBooks. I'm here to help and would be delighted to assist you.

Hello:

I did what you instructed:

To begin exporting, you can follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to the File menu in QuickBooks, select Utilities followed by Export, and choose Lists to IIF Files.
  2. Pick the specific list you wish to export and hit OK.
  3. Browse the location where you want to save your file and click Save.
  4.
  5. But, when I went to try and open this file (Quickbooks Import/Export File (.IIF) it won't let me.  It states that only QuickBooks company files can be opened this way.  How do I open it so I can continue the process?

You are using a subscription license. Are you planning on giving your license to the new owner or will you ask them to buy a new one?

I am not sure, but it is probably best that they buy their own?

When will our License expire.  How much is a new one for them?

I know the possible reasons why you might be having trouble opening the exported file, Gwynn.

First, if you're trying to open the file by double-clicking from the folder location, it is not possible since this is not a regular file, which results in an error.

If you want to review the file before importing it from the other company, you can right-click and open the file with Notepad or another medium file location.

To proceed, you can follow Step 3 in this article to import the exported IIF File to the new QuickBooks account: Export lists from the old company file into a new data file.

Here's the updated QuickBooks Desktop subscription price link for the new owner of your company: QuickBooks Enterprise Pricing.

I've added an article here where you have a guide if you only want to move your transactions: Copy multiple transactions from one company file to another.

If you have other exporting concerns or questions about managing your company data with QuickBooks, I'm always ready to help. Take care.

How much is a new one for them?

QB Desktop 2024 Pro Plus for single user = $649 + tax

You can ask them to purchase via a partner (tax exempt) + they can get $100 cashback. You can also renew your license through the same partner to get cashback. If the new owner decides to use another accounting program, they can use the trial version of QB Desktop Enterprise to access your historical data for good.
