Before your contractors can log their hours in QuickBooks Online, make sure you have given them the correct user permissions, Malesa. And yes, you can show them how to reach out to support instead of providing the phone number.
If your contractors will only need to enter their hours, you can invite them as Time tracking only users. This user type is available to QuickBooks Online Essentials, Plus, and Advanced subscriptions. You can invite as many as you need because it is non-billable. You can check this article for more details about the user permissions: Learn about usage limits in QuickBooks Online.
Now, it's time to properly invite your contractors so they can add their hours in QuickBooks Online. You can follow the steps below:
- Log in to your QBO account: https://qbo.intuit.com/.
- Click Settings (Gear icon) in the upper-right corner and select Manage users.
- Click the Add user button and enter your contractor's information:
• First name
• Last name
• Email
- Under Assign roles, select Track time only.
- Select the Send invite button.

Your contractor will receive the invitation through the email you entered earlier. From there, they can already setup their profiles on their own. After that, they can now enter their hours in your QuickBooks Online account. They can use the same log in link in Step 1.
Though it is no longer necessary for your contractors to contact our support, I'll share a link on how they can do it. The steps may vary a little depending on how you interact with the QB Assistant. Here's the link: Get help with QuickBooks products and services.
I'll also share articles that can help you manage your users and their permissions in the future:
