I use Quickbooks because my accountant demanded it. I do not use the payroll, to not do online banking or billing. Very minimal use - a spreadsheet would work fine but then I need a new accountant for a volunteer run organization which would require more work than I am willing to do for free.
In Nov 2021 I purchased Desktop Pro Plus 2022 at Staples for ~$250. I just got a subscription renewal notice from Intuit for $549 - more than double.
Do I have to upgrade to 2023 if I am such a minimal user? Will my 2022 cease to open or more to the point, what happens when the year is up?
I know that years ago you could just keep using these programs.
You can use QB Desktop 2022 but you still have to pay for the renewal ($549) to keep using it. Another option, purchase a new license for QB Desktop 2022 Pro Plus for single user for around $475 from selected partners.
Thanks for reaching out to us about this upgrade concern for QuickBooks Desktop, @Ocean266.
We wanted to help you out find the options you can consider with your current problem. Fiat Lux - ASIA is correct. Plus editions are subscription based so you have to renew it every time so you can continue using it. If at some point you decide not to renew the service, that's the time the program will no longer open.
You can consider Fiat Lux - ASIA's suggestion to find a single license for 2022 or just use the 2023 version moving forward. You can visit our authorized retail stores like Ebay or Staples to purchase our Pro Plus editions.

I googled the response, adding to the question above, Will I have to reenter all that is in the 2022 desktop to renew a new single license? or will it convert over
Thanks for joining the thread, @MB1979. I'll be happy to share some insights into your concern about having to reenter data into your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) after renewing the license.
If you've stopped using QuickBooks Desktop for a while and have backup copies of your company file before, know that you'll no longer have to enter them into your QBDT when renewing the expired license. Technically, the original data file of your company is still there, and once you update the licensing, you can access and use them again like you've used them before.
In addition, here's an article to ensure your QBDT is running the latest release: Update QuickBooks Desktop to the latest release.
You can also check this page in case you plan to upgrade to the latest version of QBDT in the future: Upgrade QuickBooks Desktop Pro, Premier, or Enterprise.
It's been a pleasure to have you in the Community today. Feel free to post here again if you have any additional QuickBooks-related concerns. I'll be here, ready to handle them. Take care, and happy new year!
Samll companies aren't going to want to come up with $500+ (or more) for simple accounting programs. It's time to move onto other options than Quickbooks.
Small firms aren't going to want to pay $500 plus each year for an annual accounting program. If you basically just post checks, make deposits and keep accounts receivable and accounts payable, it's time to move on. And Quickbooks online isn't an answer either. I haven't met a single person that likes it. It is slow, clunky, and the features are limited.
Honestly, find a better program.
I’m in the same boat - very small business and basically only use the invoice portion of quickbooks. I can’t afford to continue to pay the monthly fees for only the invoice function. Are there suggestions for other programs to use?
thank you!
If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your book and only need basic features, you should explore a free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.

Can I work on 2023 if I buy 2024 desktop
Thanks for joining this thread, Ethelrat.
When upgrading your QuickBooks subscription, you'll be able to use the Keep old version on my computer option to keep your current version of QuickBooks.
Here's how:
I've also included a detailed resource about upgrading which may come in handy moving forward: Upgrade QuickBooks Pro Plus, Premier Plus, or Enterprise
If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a lovely Monday!
