I logged in to my QB Desktop 2021 to do my monthly sync with my bank account. I have automatic rules set up so it takes about 30 seconds normally.
QB today recommended that I turn on "Advanced" mode in bank feeds. OK, "advanced" sounds better, right? So, I turned it on and all of my automatic rules disappeared. I had to manually set the vendor and account for every single transaction. When I clicked "Rules" it was empty. What's more, it doesn't automatically create new rules as I set the vendor and account for each transaction, so now I have to do it manually for every transaction from now on?
Previously I could finish in 30 seconds. Now it takes 10 minutes. What is the point of "advanced" mode if it takes 20 times as long and isn't smart enough to remember the vendor and account for my transactions?
Is there a way to make Advanced mode work smarter (i.e. automatically create rules to assign vendors and accounts to my transactions)?
I can share some information on how bank feeds and rules work in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT),@EncounterAtFarad point.
All the bank rules created will be left in Express Mode once you switched to Advanced. As a workaround, you can re-create them while you're in the Advanced settings.
Here are some outlined steps on how to recreate the rules: Use renaming rules for Bank Feeds. It provides more details on how to edit and add transactions with renaming control.

Hi @DebSheenD ,
Thank you for the answer. However, re-creating hundreds of rules by hand isn't realistic. Why can't QB just copy them over automatically? The rule structure under "Express" and "Advanced" is basically the same.
Also, you didn't answer my question about automatically creating rules moving forward. With "Express" mode it would automatically create a rule when I selected a vendor and account for a transaction. Can "Advanced" also do this? It's not doing it for me now.
Hi there, EncounterAtFarpoint.
Let me share some insight between Express mode and Advance mode.
Yes, In Express mode, It will automatically create a rule when you select or match the transactions.
However, In Advance mode, you'll need to create rules to automatically recognize and match transactions. You can read this reference for additional information about renaming rules in QuickBooks. It also provides instructions to modify and add transactions with renaming rules.

Why would you introduce a new feature that removes the most useful aspect of the previous feature, and then call it "advanced". There is nothing "advanced" about it. It is a step backward.
Not only do I have to re-create all of my rules manually, this "advanced" mode is unable to automatically create rules so I'll always have to do it manually in the future as well.
Your "advanced" mode is going to waste hours of my time. But it's the only way to access the "Bank Memo" within rules, since the "Express" mode doesn't allow you to create rules based on the "Bank Memo".
So, when will this be fixed? You clearly left out a huge feature.
I am in the same boat with years and years of bank transaction rules in express mode and now being forced into the advanced mode due to the inability to create a bank transaction rule using the bank memo AND of course now there is no ability to "auto create a rule" and hundreds of banking rules not being automatically updated into the new "Advanced" banking mode!!
Advanced banking mode should have the same options to automatically create a rule AND quickbooks should have programed to update the banking rules we have all already created in the Express Mode to have been available in the new Advanced Mode. This is a terrible waste of valuable time for long time customers of quickbooks and quickbooks should be looking into finding a resolution to this really BIG issue !!!
