Can I open a close/completed bank reconciliation?

I deleted a payment that had been reconciled, then added a new payment that I want to now show as cleared in the bank statement. Can I open the closed/reconciled bank statement to make these changes and now reflect the balances as correct?

Can I open a close/completed bank reconciliation?

Thank you for turning to the Community regarding your reconciliation concern, cwisher.

Keeping transactions organized is important for a seamless reconciliation process and accurate bookkeeping. Let's undo the reconciled account to reflect changes and keep it balanced.

In case the transaction details are the same as the deleted payment, you can easily reconcile it by entering R in the checkmark ✔ column. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Go to the Transactions menu on the left panel in your company and select Chart of accounts
  2. On the Transactions page, choose the account you're working on and tap the View register link to see more details.
  3. From the list, look for the payment and click on it to expand the line.
  4. In the checkmark ✔ column, tap the field until it shows R.
  5. Press the Save button and Yes to confirm the action.

If the amount can cause a discrepancy in the next reconciliation, it's best to undo the reconciled transactions one at a time. Follow these steps:

  1. Head to the Transactions menu on the left panel in your company and select Chart of accounts
  2. On the Transactions page, choose the bank you're working on and tap the View register link to view all entries.
  3. Find the transaction. If it's reconciled, you'll see an R in the checkmark ✔ column.
  4. Click the entry to expand the line and tap the box with the R until it shows as blank. This removes the transaction from the reconciliation.
  5. Press the Save button.
  6. Close the register once done.

On the other hand, utilize the special reconciliation tool to edit or undo reconciled data. Please know this feature is only available in QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA). After performing these steps, let's go ahead and reconcile the account.

Moreover, you can consider consulting an accountant for advice on how to better handle the situation, especially for closed books. Reaching out to them will help maintain the integrity of your records.
