Can quickbooks online match expenses and bills with existing bank transactions?

Yes, it can. Once you've connected your bank and credit card accounts, QBO automatically imports the latest transactions and suggests categories. If the entry already exists, the program prompts you to match them instead so you don't get duplicates. 

Please refer to the steps below on how to match transactions:

1. Go to Banking and select the bank account tile.
2. Locate and click the downloaded transaction. If QBO can detect a match, click the Match option. Otherwise, select the Find Match radio button.
3. Utilize the Filter section to narrow the list of possible matches. 
4. Put a checkmark beside the transaction you want to match, then hit Save.

Moreover, we suggest performing monthly account reconciliations in QBO to ensure they correspond with your bank statements. Doing so ensures that your books are balanced and accurate.

Thanks if the transaction is already in the register will quickbooks online identify a duplicate expense or bill and match that to the transaction?

If a transaction is already in the register, QuickBooks Online will not detect if there are duplicate expenses or bills. You will need to manually check the register and identify any duplicates. Alternatively, you can run a Transaction Detail by Account report and customize it to track the necessary information.
