I just upgraded to 2020 Desktop Pro yesterday and those reports are no longer showing as available. Is our upgrade incompleter or are they no longer available in 2020?
Hi sherignp,
Let's isolate this issue by accessing the report through a sample file in QuickBooks. This helps identify if your company data file is damaged.
Beforehand, ensure your QuickBooks is updated to the latest release and secure a backup copy of your company file.
Here are the steps to access the sample file:
If it works, then I recommend running the Verify and Rebuild Utility tool. This will help remove common data issues in the software.
Otherwise, repair QuickBooks to replace all damaged installation files.

Somehow they're back. I ran Payroll Setup, logged out and back in. Then they were all there.
Thanks.
How do you pull the census report for a specific year? I need 2020 year end.
Thank you!
Thanks for joining the thread, @mgalvanccsi.
When pulling up the census report, the option you have is only the Report Type in which able to set the report date is unavailable. As a workaround, you can filter the report in the excel file once exported.

Hi. Is the census report available in the QB online version?
Thanks.
Missy
Good morning, @Missy23.
Thanks for joining in on this thread. I hope your day is going well so far. I'd be more than happy to give you some insight into running a census report in your QuickBooks Online account.
QuickBooks Online (QBO) doesn't have a report which creates a census for 401k plans. However, you might want to consider running the Retirement Plans report. This shows both the employee and company contributions to all your retirement plans. Here's how to run the report:
As a future reference, check out this guide about retirement plan deductions/contributions in QuickBooks Online.
I hope this helps answer your question. I'm only a post away if you have any other concerns. Have a good one!
Are there any plans to add this type of report for Quickbooks Online? It seems as though it would be a commonly requested report. Is it possible to create something like this in a custom report if the client has Quickbooks Advanced? The suggestions online to use the Employee Detail report and Payroll Detail Report sort of get the job done, but the layout of the Employee Detail report is not suitable when exported to Excel and the Payroll Detail Report doesn't provide SSN's for the employees and most providers keep the accounts by SSN.
I can see that the option to run the Employee Census report is crucial for your business, Kit G. Rest assured our product engineers are continuously discovering new ways to adapt to our customers’ needs.
I recommend sending a product request to help determine what we need to implement moving forward. Follow the steps below about how to submit feedback.

I am using the deferred report, however after enabling macros and letting it run for 8 hours, it shows me a blank screen (no populated cells). Is this a known problem? How can I fix it. I use RightNetwork to access QB.
Thanks for joining us here, shafi1. I can share a set troubleshooting steps that can help fix this issue.
There are times that cloud hosting causes report discrepancies and unexpected behaviors in QuickBooks Desktop. Since you're accessing the program through Right Networks, you'll want to get a backup copy of your company file.
After that, restore it to a locally installed QBDT and then run the Deferred Compensation Report for 401(k) to better isolate the issue. Here's how:
If the data are now showing, this means there's an issue with Right Networks. You may need to get in touch with their support team, so they can investigate this problem further. You can connect with them through this link: https://www.rightnetworks.com/contact-us/.

Has there been any updates on the creation of this report? It would save my clients a lot of time and money if Intuit could use the report created in the desktop version for QBO.
Hello there, @jforsyth83. I have an update on QuickBooks Online's Employee Census report.
The aforementioned feature is still unavailable in QBO. Also, the implementation of the said functionality depends on the volume of submitted feedback.
I recommend accessing and customizing the Employee Contact List report and the Retirement Plans report as a workaround.
When running the Employee Contact List report, make sure to select the Date of Birth box in the Rows/Columns section. This allows the DOB to appear on the report. Here's how:
As for running the Retirement Plans report, you can follow up until Step number 3.
Lastly, you can export both reports to Excel and combine the reports from there. This helps you obtain the desired data.
I've also added an extra article about how to manage retirement plans: Set up a retirement plan.
