Can you transfer a QB account to a Techsoup QB account?

I know how efficient it is to use the best QuickBooks product for your business, Neva. Switching to QuickBooks Online Plus is a great choice to continue your nonprofit business and for payroll purposes.

 

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and newer is still supported. You can still use the application efficiently without needing to migrate. However, QuickBooks Desktop 2021 and QuickBooks Desktop Payroll services will be discontinued after May 31, 2024. If accuracy and efficiency are critical for your payroll processing, upgrading to QBO with a compatible payroll service is a better option. However, if you're comfortable managing payroll calculations and forms with the desktop platform, you can consider upgrading to a newer version.

 

You can contact TechSoup's support to clarify that they can help you migrate your QuickBooks Desktop data to your new QuickBooks Online account.

 

After migrating successfully, you can consider understanding how your data and features move from QBDT to QBO, as they look slightly different in terms.

Your access to QuickBooks Payroll Enhanced in your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2021 will expire on May 31, 2024. However, there are options available to continue using the payroll service.

 

You can consider installing QBDT 2024 trial version to continue accessing your payroll for the succeeding month to weigh your options on whether or not you need to renew your subscription before July 31, 2024. You can refer to these guides if you choose this option: 

 

 

Alternatively, you can continue using your QBDT 2021 and do your payroll manually. In this case, you'll need to calculate and enter payroll taxes, and file your tax forms yourself.

You may have 2 options after May 2024:

1. QB Desktop 2021 + a stand alone payroll app. You will register payroll expenses as JE in QB Desktop manually. Your Enhance Payroll will be useless.

 

2. QB Desktop 2024 + Enhanced Payroll. They will support it until 2027.

So since techsoup is not offering desktop 24, we have purchased QBOnline Plus but the activation is not working. Can someone walk me through that to get it set up?

Could you please provide me with more information about the issue you're experiencing with the activation? Please note that QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not require an activation code. However, if you're trying to log in to your account, it may ask for a verification code.

 

You can use this link to log in to your account: QuickBooks Online Login page. Then, enter your credentials. From there, you'll be taken to the Dashboard where you can view an overview of your company's financials. From here, you can go to your Settings to set them at once.

Can you transfer a QB account to a Techsoup QB account?

I have completed my transfer to TechSoup Quickbooks.  It is possible, but it does take time.  I had to keep asking for someone who could truly help, and once I reached the fifth person, Angela, she was incredible and helped me through it.  Keep trying as there are little nuances, but once you get to the right person, they are truly helpful.

It seems that my first problem is that I don't have a QBOnline account.  When I try to create an account, it won't let me use my email addresses because they are already in use for my current intuit account and when I sign in with my current account, it says I cannot add QBOnline Plus with my current subscription and please contact customer support.  How do I get past this hurdle?

Intuit allows users to sign up for both QuickBooks Online and QuickBooks Desktop subscriptions using the same email address.

 

In this case, I suggest contacting our Customer Care Team. This is to verify the issue with your Intuit account into why you can't add a subscription. 

 

Here's how to reach them:

 

  1. Click the Help menu in the upper-right-hand corner.
  2. Type in Talk to a human, then press Enter.
  3. Select Contact Support Team.
  4. Type again Talk to a human and click Contact Support Team.   
  5. Choose a way to connect with us.

 

Alternatively, we can create a new QBO account using a different email address.

I’ve gotten success! I’d like to share what I found to be a simple solution but is not obvious. From the original link to start set up in the techsoup email, login with your current intuit account. It will then list your “companies” aka active desktop accounts. If you choose from that list, you will get a notification that you cannot use it because of it not being an online account. Instead, look below that list of companies and click “add new company” . It will then prompt you through the process which was easy enough as long as you read the directions and take your time. Hope this helps!

Can you clarify for me how this switch from desktop to online QB works in regards to the payroll subscription?  I am under the impression that I need to cancel my payroll subscription on the desktop version and create a new subscription to an online payroll option?  Currently, the online payroll is a trail version of payroll core and the Intuit QB Payroll enhanced that I was using on desktop did not migrate to online.  Can you confirm if cancelling the desktop payroll subscription is correct?

Yes, you're right regarding canceling the QBDT Payroll subscription if you want to transfer to QBO. Please be informed that before you cancel your plan, you'll need to transfer your data first to QBO Payroll and ensure you have a subscription to QBO Payroll Core, Premium, or Elite. Afterward, you can now prepare your file and move it to your QBO company file.

After transferring your files, you can proceed to cancel your QuickBooks Desktop Subscription

Thank you for clarifying. Can you tell me how I would go about requesting a refund for the unused portion of the desktop payroll subscription?  We had to upgrade in Feb but only used it for 3 months before having to switch to Online QB....poor coordination of timing on required upgrades on Intuit's part.
