editing an electronic payment made through quickbooks

Our tax payments was set up electronically throught QB to the tax agency. This transaction occurred correctly and was credited out of the correct back account but was mapped to the wrong check account in QB. I am not an option of editing without doing a journal entry.

editing an electronic payment made through quickbooks

Let's map the tax payment to the accurate checking account in  QuickBooks Online, Smarino.

Before doing so, please know that our platform relies on the data inputted into the system. In this case, we can review and correct the bank setup from the Payroll Settings so this will map to the accurate bank moving forward.

  1. Go to Settings, then Payroll Settings.
  2. Select Edit next to Accounting
  3. Choose Paycheck and payroll tax payments to update a specific section.
  4. Enter the name of the account, or scroll to choose which account the transactions should go to.
  5. Select Save then Done.

Since you processed the payment electronically, we're unable to directly modify or delete it. You'll have to contact our Payroll Support Team so we can perform the correction.

Alternatively, you can utilize the Journal entry to move the money from one account to another. Here's how to create a journal entry:

  1. Select + New.
  2. Select Journal Entry.
  3. On the first line, select the bank account.
  4. Enter the amount in the Debits column.
  5. On the second line, the appropriate account into where should the amount go.
  6. Enter the same amount in the Credits column.
  7. Select Save and Close.

Additionally, we can reach out to your accountant for further guidance with these transactions. They are knowledgeable person to handle this kind of transaction. If you need to be associated with them, check out this article: ProAdvisor Program.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'll ensure you get the information you want on mapping accounts in QuickBooks Online. Have a great day.
