Excluded bank transactions continue reappearing

I have a downloaded Bank transaction that is not correct.  Per its date, there was no such transaction (it appeared with a date from about 10 months ago).  There was a more recent transaction that matches the amount, but that has since been entered and reconciled.  For some reason, the memo lists the date of the recent transaction, yet the date itself is old.

For this erroneous, past-dated transaction, I Exclude it but it keeps reappearing when I Update the Bank Transactions.  How can I get it to stop downloading this transaction that doesn't exist?

Excluded bank transactions continue reappearing

Hello, BusinessPerson5.

Thanks for contacting the Community with your question. I want to make sure you're able to remove the unwanted transaction from QuickBooks Online.

Excluding the transaction was the correct move. In this instance, since it keeps reappearing, I recommend also deleting the transaction in addition to excluding. This can be done in just a few steps. Here's how:

1. Hover over the Transactions tab in the left navigation menu and click Bank Transactions.

2. Make sure the correct account is selected at the top of the page and choose the Excluded tab.

3. Check the box for the transaction in question and then click the Delete button that appears.

Here's a screenshot of how this will look in your account:

Please give this a try and go back to check your downloaded transactions to make sure it's gone. If you continue to have any issues please don't hesitate to reach back out. I'll be here to lend a hand.

I've done this as well (deleting the prior excluded transactions) and it doesn't seem to have any effect - the erroneous transaction still appears when Updating the bank account.

Let me chime into this thread, Business. I'm here to help you stop downloading your transaction whenever you update your bank in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Once you delete the excluded transaction in QuickBooks, the system will recognize the transaction as missing and attempt to download it again when you update your bank feeds. Therefore, it's advisable to leave the transaction in the Excluded tab without deleting it to prevent it from being re-downloaded automatically.

Additionally, I recommend you reconcile your bank accounts regularly to ensure they’re all balanced and accurate. You can browse through this article to guide you: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

Should you need additional assistance in managing your bank transactions, feel free to include them in the comments below.

I have let the excluded transactions (plural, as it's the same one over and over that builds up in the "Excluded" tab) sit untouched, as well.  I do reconcile regularly, which hasn't helped the problem.

Any other solutions?  The issue persists.

I appreciate you getting back to the thread, @BusinessPerson5.

Let me share additional details about your concern with the excluded transactions that still emerge in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QuickBooks, once you've excluded a transaction, it shouldn't appear in account registers or financial reports. Since it still appears after you exclude the transactions, I suggest contacting your bank to check why it keeps showing up when you update the bank and check if they have ongoing issues.

Additionally, may I know the name of your bank so we can check if there's any reported issue with your case?

I'll be leaving these articles for future reference in managing your bank transactions and reconciling accounts in QuickBooks:
