General ledger lost while moving from QBO to desktop

I recently began migrating our books from QBO to desktop due to our ERP software not being able to communicate with QBO.  We've been using QBO since 2018 so we obviously have a large number of bank feed transactions that have been categorized and accounted for.  For some reason, I haven't been able to figure out how to move the general ledger over to the desktop version cleanly.  At this point, we have over 1100 transactions that are not matched or accounted for in our bank feed.

There's absolutely no way that I'm the only person who has run into this, but for the life of me, I cannot find anyone who's figured these issues out.  I'm also having a hard time wrapping my head around how one company can make an online version of standalone software, and yet they can't communicate properly when switching between the two.

General ledger lost while moving from QBO to desktop

Hi there, @jlabdik.

Thanks for reaching out to the Community for support. I hope you're enjoying the day so far. I'm happy to lend a helping hand with converting your QBO data to Desktop.

A few things to note before you start the conversion.

  • If you use Multicurrency in QuickBooks Online, your data will not export correctly to Desktop.
  • You need a recent version of QuickBooks Desktop installed before you start. You can download a trial to use as an alternative.
  • You'll need Internet Explorer 11 installed to convert the data.

Now that we've covered some of the Limitations, let's get down to business. I've included the steps below to start your conversion.

First, you'll need to prepare Internet Explorer and your QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how:

1.Set up the security settings in Internet Explorer:

  • Right-click the Internet Explorer icon and select Run as administrator.
  • Click on the Tools icon, then Internet Options. Hit Security, then Trusted Sites. Tap on Sites.
  • In the Add this website to the zone field, enter *.intuit.com and *.qbo.intuit.com.
  • Make sure Require server verification (https: ) for all sites in this zone is Unchecked.
  • Close the Trusted Sites window. Make sure Enable Protected Mode is Unchecked.
  • Select Apply, then Okay. Leave Internet Explorer open.

2.Right-click your QuickBooks Desktop icon and choose Run as administrator

3.From the File menu, hit Close Company. Then, you'll leave QuickBooks open while you finish the conversion.

Then, it's time to prepare to export your QBO data. Let's get started.

  1. Click on the Gear icon and choose Export Data
  2. Enter your reason for exporting and hit Continue.
  3. In the Moving to QuickBooks Desktop section, select Learn more
  4. Tap on Get started.
  5. Click Install ActiveX Control Now and follow the steps to install ActiveX. Once it's finished, select Continue.
  6. Pick the data you want to export and then Continue.
  7. Review the limitations and Continue.
  8. Enter your contact info and then Continue.

Please note: You'll get an email when your data is ready to export.

To see more details about converting your data, check out about how to move lists and balances from QuickBooks Online to QuickBooks Desktop.

I'm just a post away if you need anything else. As always, the Community is here any time you need a helping hand. Enjoy the rest of your day!

General ledger lost while moving from QBO to desktop

Hello,

My original question still stands... is there a way to move a general ledger from QBO to desktop?

I've done that exact process numerous times before finding that the ledger is not following through the conversion process...

General ledger lost while moving from QBO to desktop

Try using exportmybooks.com. You can find it in Intuit desktop apps. Just last week I needed to move 4 QBO files to QBD. I found out that Intuit stopped "supporting" this on 12/18/20 with no warning. I spent hours on chat and phone support with QB people who weren't aware of this yet. Anyway, I found exportmybooks.com and it worked like a charm.
