How do I export an iff file? From Quickbooks Online Payroll to import into my Quickbooks for Mac desktop program.

I'm here to ensure you're able to import your payroll data to QuickBooks for Mac, sean sullivan.

Before proceeding, let's set your export preference in QuickBooks Online Payroll. I'll show you how.

  1. Click the Gear icon and select Payroll Settings.
  2. In the Export section, click the Pencil icon on the right.
  3. On the Export preferences page, choose QuickBooks Desktop for Mac.
  4. Select Continue in the lower-right corner.
  5. Review the assigned accounts and click Done.

Then, we can now generate an IIF file for your payroll data.

  1. Choose Payroll tax on the left-hand menu.
  2. Select the Tax payment history report under Tax resources.
  3. Filter the date for the tax payments you want to export.
  4. Put a checkmark in the box for one or more payments to export.
  5. Click on Export to Accounting.

After that, it'll send the file to your Downloads folder. Once you locate the data, you can start importing them into QuickBooks for Mac.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and then click on Payroll settings.
  2. Go to the Export transactions tab.
  3. A screen will appear letting you know how many transactions and of which type are being exported. You may need to allow popups if you're using the QuickBooks Desktop for Windows option.
  4. Click on Export.

You can also individually export your payroll transactions. To learn how, please see this article: Export into QuickBooks Online or Desktop from Core, Premium, or Elite Standalone Payroll.

Additionally, I've included these articles that'll help you learn more about recording and managing your data in QuickBooks for Mac.

Please keep us posted on your progress in moving your payroll data, sean sullivan. It's our priority to ensure you're able to complete the task.

Chalene,

The problem is, that once I get to the Tax Payment History and filter by the date for the tax payment that I want to export, there is no checkbox for selecting the tax payment I want to export.

I appreciate you for updating us how the exporting process goes, sean sullivan.

The missing checkbox in the Tax payment history report could be a browser-related issue. The stored cache can affect the performance of the program.

To resolve this, I'd suggest logging in to your QuickBooks account via a private window. This doesn't use the existing cache files, which makes it a good place to determine if there's an issue with the browser.

Here are the keyboard shortcuts:

  • Safari: Command + Shift + N
  • Google Chrome: CTRL + Shift + N
  • Mozilla Firefox or Microsoft Edge: CTRL + Shift + P

Once signed in, export your tax payments. If you're able to do so, let's clear the browser's cache. This removes its stored cache to ensure the program runs smoothly.

If private browsing doesn't work, I'd recommend using other supported browsers. They'll provide the best and most secure experience with QuickBooks.

Additionally, I've included these articles that'll help you manage your taxes and personalize your payroll reports in QuickBooks Online.

Feel free to comment down below if you have other concerns or questions about exporting your tax payments. I'm always glad to help in any way I can, sean Sullivan. Have a good one!

Charlene,

Still no luck, I've tried using private browsing on Safari, Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox.  The check box just doesn't show up.  This has been a problem for my tax payments since you guys rolled out with the new Online Payroll.  Sometimes it works other times it doesn't. I've spent an enormous amount of time dealing with you guys on this and it has become very problematic.  I've had to get you guys to create the IIF file and email it to me before, can we get that done now?  I really need to get this tax payment into my accounting software and move on.....

Hi, sean sullivan.

While the Community can provide answers and troubleshooting solutions to certain questions, there are things that only our phone support can do to resolve the problem.

Since there's no option for Tax Payment History, I'd suggest getting in touch with our QuickBooks Online Support. They'll be able to do a screen-sharing session and see what's going on on your end when exporting your payroll data.

Unlike in this public forum, they have the tools required to perform any escalations in the system whenever necessary on your behalf. To ensure we address your concern on time, check out our support hours.

Please be reminded that our Support Team is available from 6:00 AM until 6:00 PM on weekdays, and from 6:00 AM till 3:00 PM  PT on Saturdays. Here's how to contact us:

2. Choose Contact Us.

3. Enter a  brief description of your situation in the What can we help you with? area, then click Let's talk.

4. You'll be presented with a few options for connecting with Intuit. Select Get a call.

Know that you can always visit our Help Articles page for QuickBooks Online in case you need some reference for your future tasks.

Feel free to post back again if you have any other questions. I’d be more than willing to lend you a hand.
