How do I import a transaction history from an excel spreadsheet to quickbooks online?

Hello, userbobbie-gaston!

Let me share some details and guide you in importing those transactions.

QuickBooks can only read transactions through supported formats such as CSV, QFX, QBO, OFX, or TXT files. You usually download these files from your bank.

Now that you've prepared your file. Here are the steps to import transactions inside QuickBooks:

  1. Go to Transactions tab, then make sure to select Banking.
  2. Click the drop-down button for Link account and select Upload from file.
  3. Select Browse and choose the .CSV file. Then, click on Next.
  4. Select the QuickBooks Account where you want to upload it, and hit Next.
  5. Select a Date and a date format.
  6. Choose column 2 for Description
  7. Amount statement fields must be selected based on how the amounts are shown on the file.
  • 1 column: both positive and negative numbers
  • 2 column: separate positive and negative numbers

       8. Click on Next.

       9. Put a checkmark on those transactions you want to upload and again click Next.

     10. Click on Yes to import and then Let's go!

Once done, you may start reconciling your account inside QuickBooks Online.

Please leave a comment if you still have questions about importing transactions. I'll be glad to help you out. Have a nice week!

How do I import a transaction history from an excel spreadsheet to quickbooks online?

I wanted to import bank transactions from an Excel file.

I went to the banking tab in QB, but only one of the two bank accounts I have set up in QB appears, and I can't see an option to select the other bank account.

Glad to see you here in the thread, @gcestes. I'll help you get around this to import bank transactions into your bank account inside QuickBooks Online (QBO).

Before anything else, please know that the banks you see in the Banking tab are banks that are linked to your QBO company. To select other connected bank accounts inside the program, you'll want to click the dropdown button below the Menu icon. I'll walk you through the process to get you going. These are the steps:

  1. Access your QuickBooks Online company.
  2. On the left navigational bar, go to the Banking tab.
  3. Click the Dropdown arrow button beside your bank.
  4. See the list of banks connected to your account, and then click your preferred bank account.

For visual reference, see the photo that I've attached:

If you don't see your preferred bank account, it only means it's not yet connected to your company file. You'll need to link it first before you can utilize it.

For more information about connecting bank accounts to QBO, see this article: Connect bank and credit card accounts to QuickBooks Online.

Additionally, I've got you this handy article about exporting and importing data into your company: Common questions about importing data to QuickBooks Online.

Also, see this page for tips about handling bank transactions: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

It was a pleasure to have you here today, @gcestes. I'll assist you again if you need help accomplishing tasks inside QuickBooks. Take care, and have a nice day!
