I can guide you on how you can export your data into QuickBooks Online, @theresa-bar548.

At this time, the option to export your company file is unavailable in QuickBooks Online.

As a workaround, you can look for a third-party application to save Sharefile data in QBO. You can browse for these applications by visiting the following link: QBO Apps.

Once done, you can start importing your QuickBooks Desktop company file into QBO: Just follow the detailed steps in the Move your QuickBooks Desktop file to QuickBooks Online article.

I'm just a reply away if you need anything else with migrating your QuickBooks company file. I'll be here to help.

@theresa-bar548

What do you mean with "exported data"? Ask for any file of QBW, QBB or QBM from your old bookkeeper company. Install the trial license of QBD 2020 and restore the company file on it prior to migrating to QB Online.

Didn't work because the file is not excel. It should be a .qbw but when I download it from ShareFile to my Mac, it shows as a text file.

I downloaded QB Desktop Pro 2020 to do what @Fiat Lux - ASIA said but QB Desktop doesn't "see" the file because it is not a .QBW file in my downloads folder.

Help!

I received our exported data from our previously used QB Desktop Pro 2019 via ShareFile (from our bookkeeping company). How do I import that into QBO?

I downloaded QB Desktop Pro 2020 for Mac.

I downloaded the file from ShareFile and renamed it with a .QBW extension.

I tried to open it in QB Desktop for Mac and it said this:

This file is a QuickBooks Windows company file (.QBW) that cannot be opened in QuickBooks Mac. In QuickBooks Windows you can create a file that will open on a Mac using the menu: File > Utilities > Copy Company File for QuickBooks Mac.

Now what?

Let me help you import the file to QuickBooks Online, @theresa-bar548.

The QuickBooks Company (QBW) file only works in QuickBooks for Windows.

If you're using MAC, you can get the trial version of QuickBooks Desktop for MAC. Then, convert the QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac. After converting the data to QuickBooks Desktop for MAC, you can now export it to QuickBooks Online.

You can check this article for more information on how to move the files from QuickBooks for Windows to QuickBooks for MAC: Convert a QuickBooks for Windows file to QuickBooks for Mac

Then, the following article will help you transfer data directly into QuickBooks Online: Convert a QuickBooks Mac Desktop file to QuickBooks Online.

Let me know if there's anything that I can assist. Have a wonderful day!
