in QBO, moving transactions out of checking into another account

I mistakenly had my POS (Wix) transfer transactions directly into my checking account and want to move them to the appropriate account. How can I do this?

Thanks for reaching out to us, Sheena. Let me outline the steps on how to move your Point of Sale (POS) transactions to another account in QuickBooks Online (QBO).

In QBO, it's essential to transfer POS transactions to the appropriate accounts to ensure that your financial reports accurately depict your business' actual standing.

To do that:

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Chart of Accounts.
  2. Locate your Checking account and click View Register.
  3. Select the transaction you want to move and click Edit.
  4. Under the Deposit to dropdown, choose the appropriate account.
  5. Click Save.

Additionally, I suggest performing monthly account reconciliation in QBO to maintain the integrity of your financial data so you can make informed decisions for your business.

If you have any further concerns about transferring transactions to another account, please don't hesitate to swing by the Community. We're always eager to hear from you and address any needs you may have. Have a great day and take care!

Well, pooh. I was looking all over for that stupid drop down and just couldn't find it. Sure, I was focusing more toward the top of the entry since that's where it was in Desktop. I definitely try to do monthly reconciliations. That's how I first found this issue. Thanks so much for helping this seemingly clueless QBO user!

Is there any way to do this with a group of items? Maybe even a macro? I have 3 months-worth of deposits to move and, *if* I don't have to go into each and every deposit, it would be great!

Hello Sheena,

I recognize that batch transferring transactions from one account (checking) to another is a more convenient process. However, it's important to note that QuickBooks Desktop does not support this feature. As a result, the only available option is to manually review and transfer these transactions individually.

Once everything is taken care of, you can proceed to reconciling your transactions. Here's an article to guide you through the process: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Desktop.

Please don't hesitate to go back to this thread if you have more questions in mind. Take care and have a good one.

Hello,

You said that moving multiple bank transactions was not possible in QB desktop, is it possible in QB online?

Yes, you can move multiple bank transactions to a different account in QuickBooks Online (QBO), @PK33635. I'll ensure that you can achieve that.

Just a quick note, this option is exclusive to QBO Accountant and Advanced version. If you're subscribed to any of these two versions, let's begin moving your transactions by following the steps below:

If the transactions are still not added in the bank register, let's go to the For review tab, tick the boxes of each item that you wish to move, then select Confirm. They will be moved to the Categorized tab.

If the entries are already in the bank register, reclassify them.

  1. From the Gear icon, choose Reclassify transactions.
  2. Select Profit and Loss from the Account types drop-down to view income and expense accounts. You may also choose Balance Sheet to view your asset, liability, and equity accounts.
  3. Choose the transactions you want to change from the Account list.
  4. Use class, customer/vendor to filter the list. If you wish to see all paid and unpaid transactions, choose Accrual. If you just want to see all paid transactions, choose Cash.
  5. Select Find transactions and tick the box for each transaction you want to change. Please ensure you don't leave the fields blank before moving the transactions to Accounts Receivable or Accounts Payable.
  6. Select Reclassify.
  7. Choose a new account to transfer the entries from the Change account to drop-down.
  8. Once ready, click on Apply.

Additionally, I recommend reconciling your account regularly to ensure your accounts are always balanced and accurate to maintain financial integrity.

If you need further help with moving multiple transactions to another account, specifically with the reclassifying process, please let us know. We're always here to back you up. Have a good one.
