Inserting missing transactions

I failed to update Quickbooks Self-Employed for about six months in 2019. The ledger ends with 4/4/19 and begins again with 11/25/19. I downloaded the date range (4/5/19-11/24/19) in both CSV and Quickbook Web Connect formats,, but when I try to upload either using Imports, my only option is "Import older transactions." With the .qbo file, the system says it can only read .csv files (which seems bizarre). And with the csv file, it says: "We've filtered out 1196 transactions that we already got through your bank connection. Looks like this file doesn't contain any valid transaction data. Check the file and try again." I suspect that's because it is looking for transactions older than the last one in the ledger, rather than recognizing it needs to insert missing transactions. Help!

Inserting missing transactions

Hi there, @writer.

Let me share some clarification about importing older transactions to QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE).

You can bring in earlier bank transactions to QBSE using only Excel CSV files and use either a 3-column or 4-column format. To import them successfully, let's start by reviewing the format of the spreadsheet. I've attached a screenshot for your reference.

Additionally, you need to select the Import older transactions option to import the CSV file. Here's how:

  1. At the top right, click the Gear icon.
  2. Select Imports
  3. Search for your bank, then click Import older transactions.
  4. Select Browse, then locate the CSV file on your computer.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to finish importing your data.

After uploading, you can now classify your transactions as Business or Personal and assign the appropriate account to the Business ones. For more information, like how to edit a transaction you already reviewed, please check the following article: Categorize and edit transactions in QuickBooks Self-Employed.
