Hi usernj23,

When merging accounts in QuickBooks, you'll want to ensure that the remaining account has reconciliation records. Otherwise, the transactions will become unreconciled, and you'll need to reconcile them again. For example, you're merging accounts A and B, wherein account A is an old account with reconciled transactions. In this case, you'll should retain account A in the merging process.

Therefore, in your case, you'll have to re-reconcile your transactions.

If you have other questions in mind, feel free to go back to this thread.

I found that after merging, I lost years of entries for my main account.  Only went back to April 2024.

I was having problems with bank downloads and not being able to deactivate bank feed.  It is stuck there, but not deactivating.

We'll provide details to help you recover previous entries inside the account, download transactions, and deactivate an account in your bank feeds inside QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT), @VIPCARE.

Since you're only able to retrieve or download transactions from a specific period and, we recommend contacting your financial institution and ask them for copies of all the needed transactions. Once they're able to provide those records, you can have them imported inside QBDT. We'll outline the steps to get you going:

  1. Go to Banking.
  2. Select Bank Feeds then select Banking Center.
  3. Find your bank and select Download Transactions. This opens a browser window to your bank's website.
  4. Sign in to your bank's website to download the Web Connect file.

For further guidelines, feel free to check the Web connect section inside this handy article: Download bank feed transactions in QuickBooks Desktop.

Also, can you tell us more about the issue you encountered with bank downloads and the name of your bank provider? Did you receive any specific error while getting bank transactions into an account? This way, we can give you an accurate recommendation to help address this.

Since you can't deactivate an account inside the bank feed, we recommend utilizing the Verify and Rebuild option inside QBDT. This way, the system can help you determine and troubleshoot the issue. For more information, refer to this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, feel free to refer to this page to help you deactivate your bank feeds: Fix issues when deactivating bank feeds

Moreover, here's an article to help you secure a backup copy of your company that you can use in the future: Back up your QuickBooks Desktop company file.

Rest assured, our team is always ready to lend a helping hand when handling bank accounts or transactions inside QuickBooks. Also, please don't hesitate to visit us or comment below if you have other questions or need assistance performing specific tasks inside the program. Stay safe.

I apologize. I was a little to quick with my fingers.  It had my information. In April our account was hacked. The info was in the old account.  What it did do after the merge was change my beginning balance on the reconcile that I was doing. So it looks like prior months were not reconciled. Will work on this over the weekend to make sure.

I will also look at your response to see if I will need to use it.
