Pinnacle Bank Detail in QBO

I am a new user to QBO and have successfully connected my Pinnacle Bank account to QBO.  I have imported transactions for 2021 and am figuring out the rules which can be defined to help me categorize ongoing transactions.  A small but irritating glitch I am encountering is the Bank Detail record that comes into QBO displays some of the transaction information twice.  Here is an example:

I had a Debit Card transaction with INTUIT for $16.38. The description for that transaction is:
[Removed] CA [Removed] Card#xxxx

The description in the Bank Detail that is being imported into QuickBooks Online is:

[Removed] INTUIT *PAYROLL [Removed] INTUIT *PAYROLL [Removed] CA 12222 Card#xxxx

After 32 characters, the the full description starts again.

I think Pinnacle Financial Partners is adding this information to the front of the Bank Detail field but they claim they are just passing on what is being given to the from the merchant.

Are there any other Pinnacle users out there and are you experiencing this same glitch?

Thanks!

Pinnacle Bank Detail in QBO

Greetings, @Rees

It's great to see a new face here in the Community. I appreciate you coming here with your concern about banking within your QuickBooks Online system. Let me share some insight to help you out.

QuickBooks Online imports the information that's received from the bank and doesn't alter it in anyway. This means that the transactions are coming from Pinnacle with duplicated descriptions.

If you'd like to be sure, you could try downloading a WebConnect file and manually importing it to see if the same things happens. If so, you could potentially edit the WebConnect files in a programs like Excel and fix the descriptions. This would be more of a workaround since the auto-imported transaction would still be the same.

Pinnacle Bank Detail in QBO

I took your advice and exported the transactions to a Web Connect .QBO file and the transaction I am referring to looks like this:

<STMTTRN>
<TRNTYPE>DEBIT
<DTPOSTED>20220124120000
<TRNAMT>-16.38
<FITID>01242022-16.382535 Garcia Ave I
<NAME>2535 Garcia Ave INTUIT *PAYROLL
<MEMO>2535 Garcia Ave INTUIT *PAYROLL 888-537-7794 CA 12222 Card#xxxx
</STMTTRN>

QBO must combine the <NAME>field and the <MEMO> into Bank Detail.  I would like to be able to say from the Pinnacle Bank side if <NAME> is blank, leave it blank and don't change it to be the first 31 characters of <MEMO>.    There are transactions where <Name> contains something different and in that case I want to see it.

Doesn't that seem reasonable?

Pinnacle Bank Detail in QBO

Let's make sure transactions are showing correctly in QuickBooks Online, Rees.

Normally, your bank may offer a few file formats for you to use. You'll want to pick the QuickBooks Online data (QBO) format since these are formatted specifically for QBO. You can also update transactions from a CSV or Quicken (QFX) file. To get transactions from your bank, follow the steps below:

  1. Sign in to your bank or credit card's website.
  2. Follow your bank's instructions for how to download CSV files of your transactions to your computer. Every financial institution has different steps.
  3. Check the date range for the download. It should be at least one day before the date of your oldest transaction.
  4. Download your transactions. Save the file somewhere you can easily find it, like your computer's desktop.

Also, make sure to review and that you're using the correct format when uploading the file. I've added this article for more information: Common Questions About Importing Data To QuickBooks Online.

However, if you're still experiencing this odd behavior, I suggest reaching out to our support team to investigate further. They have the tools to pull up your account securely. Here's how you can reach them:

  1. Click the (?) Help icon and enter Talk to a human (then type it again when prompted).
  2. When asked by the bot, enter your concern
  3. Select I still need a human, then proceed with Contact us or Get help from a human.
  4. Choose either Chat or Callback.

Additionally, QuickBooks downloads the latest transactions and tries to match them with what you've entered in QuickBooks. For your reference, check out this article for your guide: Categorize And Match Online Bank Transactions In QuickBooks Online.
