Quick Books Desktop Accountant checks disappearing

I just had the weirdest thing happen.  I was reconciling my check book and had 6 missing checks in Quick Books. I know they were there at one time, because the images were on my online banking app.

HOW could this have happened?   It's not easy to delete a check.

My system is password protected and never is there access for anyone else to be on my computer.

Quick Books Desktop Accountant checks disappearing

@MichelleBB  Well, you can always check on the Audit Trail Report.

It is located under the Reports menu>Accountant & Taxes, about the 7th option down.

At the very least, it should show exactly when the checks were deleted.

Unfortunately, since it sounds like you only have one Quickbooks login, the 'Last Modified By' column won't tell you anything useful about which login account was used to do it.

Quick Books Desktop Accountant checks disappearing

Let's work together to find the missing checks in QuickBooks, @MichelleBB. I'm here to provide you with ways to locate them.

I agree with FishingForAnswers. The first step is to check the Audit Trail report. This report shows a detailed log that tracks all the changes made to transactions within your QuickBooks file.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Reports and select Accountant & Taxes.
  2. Choose Audit Trail and click Customize Report.
  3. Select the Filters tab.
  4. Type in TransactionType and choose Checks in the dropdown.
  5. Click OK to apply the changes.
