I have an AMEX account with one main card plus an employee card. I've connected them both to QB Desktop as I had already done for my Chase business cards, but then I realized that the employee cards's charges also appear in my main card (with the employee name in the memo line but I can only see that after I match the charges). Is there a way to only import the charges made on each specific card on the separate accounts I created? All other cards I have are set up that way, so I am not too excited about having to add steps to my workflow for this. I am concerned with duplicate entries. FYI this is on the desktop version (Mac 2016 and 2019).
Thanks for sharing the details about the behavior of your bank feeds center, Lucanaut.
When you've set up the employee's card as a sub-account, all the downloaded transactions will also appear on the main account. You can make the employee's card as another account instead of a sub-account. This way, all the transactions will be imported there.
If there duplicate transactions that you want to remove, you can Ignore them.
Here's how:
Please keep me posted if you need anything else.
Thanks. This seems more like.a band aid though. How do I prevent this from happening in the first place? My other card (chase) is set up the same exact way and it’s not exhibiting this behavior. The employee cards are no set up as subaccounts but separate accounts.
Another thought. As an alternate approach, is there a way to see who is responsible for a particular charge before I match the charges and assign them to accounts, classes etc? It looks like that information is in the “memo” line but that’s not visible when I first download the transactions. If that were possible I wouldn’t mind having everything showing up under the main card.
Welcome aboard to the Community, Lucanaut.
I'm here to help share some information about your AMEX bank concern.
The transactions downloaded to QuickBooks Desktop are dependent on the data shared by your financial institution. You can check with your bank to configure the setup of downloading bank transactions.
If you want to enable the Bank Memo column, please make sure the box beside Show Bank Memo is checked. You can follow the steps below to add the column:
1. Click the Banking tab at the top menu bar.
2. Select Bank Feeds.
3. Click Bank Feeds Center.
4. Click Transaction List.
5. Put a check mark to the box beside the date field.
I've also attached a screenshot below for your reference about the Show Bank Memo column.
If you need more help concerning your AMEX bank account, please let us know. We'll be around for you.
What QB version is that screenshot from? I am using QB for Mac 2019 and there is no "Bank Feeds" menu under banking.
Hello there Lucanaut,
I appreciate your prompt response about the Bank Memo column in your Bank feeds.
The option to add the Bank Memo column is only available in the desktop version of QuickBooks. Since you're using QuickBooks for Mac 2019, I recommend you send feedback straight to our Product Development Team.
I believe the more flexibility the product has, the more it will appeal to a wider audience. The product is improved based on the suggestions we received from our customers.
So for this reason, I recommend that you send feedback through this link:

I got a suggestion to manage your bank feed transactions, RGAU.
I know that connecting bank account is convenient. However, it wouldn’t be viable for your situation since not all of your supplementary cards have business transactions. When your bank sends all transactions to your primary card, we’re unable to filter the ones related to your business.
I’d suggest just doing the import option, so you can only choose the ones from the primary and one supplementary cards. In this way also, you can choose the receiving accounts in QuickBooks which corresponds to them.
Let me know if you have additional questions about your bank-feeds situation.
