Can I delete items from the bank register that are years old?

Hello there, @userjclegg5002.

Yes, you can delete old transactions from the bank register. Please know that this can affect future balances.

Make sure to open QuickBooks as a master or company admin user, then locate the transaction/s to take them out from the bank register.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Accounting and then select Chart of accounts.
  2. Look for the bank in question, then select View register.
  3. Filter the transactions ( Reconcile StatusTransaction TypePayee, and Date).
  4. Click the recorded transaction and then select Delete.
  5. Hit Yes to confirm the process and ensure they are taken out successfully.

If you have other transactions, to remove, you can follow the same steps indicated above.

Once completed, you're now ready to reconcile your account. You can open the thorough information from this link as your guide: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

Just in case you're getting issues with your reconciliation, you can check out the instructions under the Fix issues during a reconciliation in QuickBooks Online article reference in fixing the errors.

Keep me notified if you have other concerns in deleting and reconciling transactions in the bank register. I'll look forward to your response. Stay safe and well!

Can I delete items from the bank register that are years old?

This solution works if you have a few transactions to delete but for some reason I have hundreds of older transactions dating back to 1994. Is there a way to delete them all at once.

If not can I delete this account and add it back to the accounts as a new bank?

Can I delete items from the bank register that are years old?

Hi there,@userjclegg5002.

Thank you for keeping us updated. Let me assist you with your concerns about bank register transactions.

You can still follow the previous answer that my colleague posted. Please make sure to filter the date, so you can delete specific transactions from a long time ago.

Also, you have the option to deactivate an account from the bank register. This way, you can create a new one. Here's how:

  1. Select Accounting, then choose Chart of Account.
  2. Locate the account
  3. Select the drop-down from the View register, then select Make Inactive.

To learn more about deactivating an account, see this article: How do I delete/deactivate account from bank register.

You can also learn how to add an account to your chart of accounts in QuickBooks Online. This will help you manage your account and transactions in the future.

Please let me know if I can be of any additional assistance. Have a good one and stay safe!

Can I delete items from the bank register that are years old?

Hello, @aleks83.

I'll share some information about deleting an item in the register. Your book may be closed since its 2019 data. You're unable to make changes once your book is locked.

To make some changes on close books, here's how:

  1. Sign in to QuickBooks Online as a primary admin or company admin. Only admins can make these changes.
  2. Go to Gear and then choose Accounts and Settings.
  3. Tap the Advanced tab.
  4. Select Edit ✎ in the Accounting section.
  5. Change the closing date (or remove the closing date). Then, delete the items in your register.
  6. Click Save and then Done.

Learn more about these steps in these articles:

I'm also adding this link in case you need help managing bank-related tasks: Find help with bank feeds and reconciling accounts.

Please let me know if you have other questions or concerns with chart of accounts. I'm always here for you. Take care and have a wonderful day ahead.
