Can't download Bank of America credit card transactions into Quickbooks.

The only options that come up are for Quicken and Excel. Bank of America Help says just to click on the web connect for Quickbooks but it does NOT appear in the list! Help...all I want to do is download the transactions for each credit card into my Quickbooks account. When I call Bank of America, they refer me to Quickbooks. When I call Quickbooks, they say it's a bank problem. Sooooo frustrating to pay soooo much for Quickbooks software and not be able to download transactions.

I've thoroughly checked our records here but I can't find any related reports, syschroeder.

I'll make sure that you can import your bank transactions to QuickBooks Desktop. Before we start, we'll have to consider that we can't import QFX or QIF Quicken files into QuickBooks Desktop. We can only import Web Connect files into QuickBooks Desktop. These files have a .qbo extension at the end of the file name.

I recommend visiting the Intuit Marketplace to a find third-party applications that can handle QIF Quicken file conversion.

After converting it, you can follow the steps below in uploading the file to QBDT:

  1. Open QuickBooks.
  2. Select File from the top bar menu.
  3. Choose Utilities then Import.
  4. Select Web Connect Files.
  5. Locate the QBO file you saved, then click Open.
  6. When prompted to select a bank account, select Use an existing QuickBooks account.
  7. Click Continue, then hit OK.
  8. You can go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

Once done, you can now categorize your bank transactions.

If you're about to reconcile your account, please check out this article that will guide you in doing it: Learn the reconcile workflow in QuickBooks.

I'm always here and ready to help you need additional assistance in managing your bank transactions. Don't hesitate to tag me below.

Can't download Bank of America credit card transactions into Quickbooks.

Thanks for your reply. I'm just so frustrated about paying the $ for what I thought was a higher-end program and then not being able to use it without purchasing even more stuff to try and patch the process. Quicken does this effortlessly! And all my other bank and credit cards work just fine using Quickbooks, but not Bank of America. Which leads me to believe that it is the bank, not Quickbooks. Just sad that one of the main banks/credit card companies is not compatible with one of the main accounting programs. Doesn't make sense to me. If no one else has had issues with downloading BOA credit card transactions into Quickboks, it must just be me. :(

Can't download Bank of America credit card transactions into Quickbooks.

Hello,

Similar issue for me.

Cannot download Bank of America credit card transaction to QB. I am signed up with QB WebConnect.

I have Quickbooks Pro 2017

At the BOA site I am able to initiate the .qbo statement download.

I get the QB dialog box for Import New Transactions which I select but then nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Thanks, John

Hello there, @jct9841.

Let's create a new test bank account to troubleshoot issues with importing WebConnect files. Then, merge it to your original account to avoid duplicates.

Here's how:

  1. Go to Lists at the top menu.
  2. Select Chart of Accounts.
  3. Right-click on the pop-up window and select New.
  4. Tick the radio button for Bank, then click Continue.
  5. Enter the correct bank's name in the Account Name field and hit Save and Close.
  6. Right-click the old account and rename it to the correct bank's name.
  7. Hit Save and Close
  8. When you get the prompt to merge the accounts, click Yes.

In the meantime, you can import .qbo file in a new test company so, you'll be able to determine if the issue lies in the original company or with the formatting of the .QBO file. Please follow the steps below:

  1. Go to the File menu.
  2. Click New Company.
  3. Choose Express Start.
  4. On the newly created test company, add your bank account to the Chart of Accounts.
  5. Set up the account for Bank Feeds.
  6. Download or import the .qbo file.

Bank of America says if you pay $15/month and have a business account, they will allow export via .qbo files. This is ridiculous. Intuit needs to negotiate with BOA to make this work without another $180/year just to access data is usable format.

I fully agree. BOA until now has had the option to download QBO. Now they have eliminated it. QuickBooks needs to allow download of QFX or include an automatic, behind the scenes, conversion program to allow BOA imports. As it stands now BOA is useless to a QB owner. Heading to Chase!

It is BofA. They are horrible.  About 3  years ago I spent over 4 hours on phone with many different BofA reps.  Finally found out that if you have "personal" accounts you can not download QBO files.  If your accounts are business accounts apparently you get the option to download QBO.  I asked them why and they said that Quickbooks was only for business use and that people with personal accounts only use Quicken.   I was like...seriously...did you really just say that to me?  I even asked if I could pay to be able to download QBO and they said not unless the accounts are "business" accounts. I do not know if this has changed in the last few years but I periodically check to see if I can download and it appears that nothing has changed.  Needless to say I only have one client with BofA.  I have been able to get most of my other clients to switch banks.  That is what I know about this situation.  Hope this helps.

Thanks so much for replying! Yes, that is exactly what happened to me as well. Hours...And a brick wall. Like you, I am astonished that Bank of America would be that shortsighted with such a popular program. Their loss!!!  Good for you for getting your clients to change banks. 😊

I agree with all of you, I have been dealing with this for several years, spent hours on the phone with both sides.  I think it is time for QBO to create a fix to the problem.  As far as BofA, we pay enough in annual fees, allow us the pleasure of doing our job to get your information in an easy timely fashion.

I'm having this same issue!!  So frustrating, all the options are for Quicken or Excel which doesn't work.  I have a years worth of transactions I'm not able to import.....one would think for this kind of money.... And it's frustrating because all it feels like is Intuit is pushing the Online Quickbooks which absolutely sucks... oh well.

Hopping on this thread as I'm having the same frustrating issue (personal BoA account that won't export via a QBO file). Pay for the BoA account & pay for the QB software but don't feature... super frustrating. Anyway, curious to know if anyone has found a free workaround? Thanks in advance

What I found at BofA is that if your bank account is considered by BofA as a personal account, the Quickbooks option on the download window simply isn't there.     I have a Business account with Business credit cards at BofA.     The Quickbooks option does show in the download window.     I have actually tried to talk to bankers at individual BofA locations, and they simply don't understand the problem.     As a side note, Business credit cards at BofA are seriously difficult to reconcile because BofA issues a "master" account and "individual" credit cards as sub accounts.    Charges are on the individual accounts, payments are on the "master" account.

Oddly, I think the premise by BofA is that a personal credit card holder would NEVER use Quickbooks, but would only use Quicken.

I'm not sure I should feel relieved to find that others had this problem - because that doesn't make it go away - but at least I'm not going mad. The QB folks I've been on the phone with for two days now admit there's a problem (I had to direct them to these postings in the Quickbooks community). Both B of A and QB will lose business, deservedly, if they can't fix such things in a simple, user-friendly way.

Has this BofA/QBO problem been resolved for you?  COUNTLESS hours on the phone with Quickbooks only to get "we know it's a problem with BofA accounts, but we're not sure it's our problem, and you'll just have to wait for the product engineers to resolve it.

Hello there, mpkmosaic.

I understand the importance of having this feature and getting this resolved as soon as possible.

Our engineers are still working to identify the cause to provide a permanent solution. Also, I'd suggest contacting our Support Team  to make sure you'll receive updates regarding the status of this issue.

In the meantime, you may consider manually uploading bank transactions into QuickBooks Online.

Thank you for patience. Please don't hesitate to post or leave a comment below for follow-up questions about banking. I'll be here to help.

Your answer makes me feel like you didn't actually read my posting.  As I said here, I've been on with support for hours and hours, and as I said, they said this is a known problem with Bank of America and have a product engineer "working on it."  This is not a matter of me not knowing how to link an account or update or categorize transactions.

Your answer adds to my frustration.

Your answer makes me feel like you didn't actually read my posting.  I've been on with support for hours and hours.  Your suggestion of contacting support took me to directions for what I've done 20+ times since this problem started.  Support said this is a known problem with Bank of America and a product engineer is "working on it."  I don't pay a premium price for Quickbooks to manually load transactions, and as I see confirmed in the other strings from people who have had similar issues with BofA, American Express, and others, there are limitations when transactions are manually loaded.

None of the strings mentioned that these problems were actually solved which makes me very nervous that mine won't ever be either.
